Going out in Feb. next year any information on the resort,the slopes and the surrounding linked resorts would be greatfully appreciated.

Scheffau as a village is great. It's a little sleepy, if you want a rave up then not the best. The village is about half a mile from the gondola station but there's a nice green run down and in the afternoon there's either the ski bus or a piste bully dragging kids back up the green run.

It's linked to the Ski Welt so there's 300km of interconnected piste. There's 100's of cosy bars and restaurants all over the area and the infrastructure is very efficient and friendly.

Mrs Smoothie and I love the Ski Welt. Most years we think about going elsewhere and just end up back there. Plus it's 3 euros a beer instead of nearly 10.

Totally agree a smashing resort and the Sheffau Bowl and surrounding areas are Superb skiing :thumbup:

We are going to Scheffau in January. Have booked after all the brilliant comments about the Skiwelt, but are worried (see last snow reports and forcast for Sun, up to 18*C :-(( Any words of encouragement from the experts are welcomed

Hi ginnie

We went to Scheffau last xmas and it was great. We had a huge dump on xmas day but even before that it was fine. The whole area is very pretty and the mountain restuarants are good. The village is very sleepy but then we go there to ski and our chalet - chalet heidi - was very lively at night thanks to Mike and Caroline and their staff!!

Look out for Mike on the slopes with his birght orange jacket and all his ski tourers in tow

Great place and we would have gone back this year for xmas but chalet is all booked out!

have to wait for end of Jan for Oberlech and Kitzbuhel

We go for the skiing most of all and it is actually very nice and cosy in the chalet in the evening, won't miss the night life. Our concern was that there might not be enough snow the second week of Jan, but on the other hand it is a bit early, still beginning of Nov. Reports say 50 cm hi slopes, not bad I think. In two months it should be much better :D

Ginnie, Mrs Smoothie and I have been to the Skiwelt 3 years running, 1st or 2nd week in Jan and the snow has always been great. The first year there were a few bare patches between the pistes but it was a bad year everywhere. They have great snow making facilities so don't worry.

The area has a unique micro climate. The main ski zone is flanked by a huge mountain chain called Wilder Kaiser (Wild Emporer) which is basically a massive wall of rock. The north winds hit it, get pushed high taking moist air with it then dumped back down on the otherside as snow.
