Magic!

Having been in this years Scottish choir for the Last Night at the Proms, I now have set myself another project. Without giving too much away just now, it involves some word craft. I have just over a week to complete the project, prior to presentation. The subject is my own, and I have chosen ~ "Magic Skis"

Of course, I have many ideas of my own, but I see no reason not to tap ito the fantasies of J2skiers. Certainly, over the years, I have read a lot of fantasy on J2, and may even have contributed some myself! :wink:
So here is the challenge:

If you had a pair of magic skis, what would you want them to do?
Or, to stand the question upside down:
Are there things that you want to do, that you think only magic skis can do for you?

No "Not a lot" replies please, this is serious fantasy!

No boundaries, not too much in the way of common sense, just emphasise it would need the magic bit.

If/when I complete the project, I promise to post the result ~ if I get some thoughts from here.

When i locked my boots into the ski bindings i could think of any mountain/resort in the world and teleport there !

If I were to own magic skis what would I want from them..

I would want an 'anti-gravity' switch on them somewhere, where you can float at any given time- would be rather handy for throwing yourself off some huge kicker and not having to worry about hurting yourself!

Could also be useful for beating life queues- provided not everybody owned these skis of course!

Thanks for the first bit Baillie, I can use the "float" idea ~ strong. Skiing is so dynamic, it is hard to think of the opposite.

I don't want to beat a life queue, I'll stay at the back of that queue, if you don't mind. :wink:
Good for jumping lift queues though!!!!!

I'd like them to ski me perfectly to a private chalet with an open fire where Natalie Imbruglia would be waiting for me, and while I am giving her what for it will snow outside and the return journey will never end, until I say "Zillertaller Pils" at which point I ski up to a hut on the mountain where Lindsey Vonn is serving me up ice cold bottles of beer which never make you REALLY drunk, and then after me and Lindsey have got up close and personal I ski forever and ever, with 2 weeks off for a summer break on the beach with Anna Kournikova.
The skis are so magic that this goes on for ever and ever and none of us get any older.

That is very strong. The opposite of ~ "Who wants to live forever?" Yes, although age and dying carries no worries for me, skiing forever is a powerful thought.
You should be able to do most of the rest by flashing your Scott Neos. Some ladies are easily led. :wink:

My magic skis would let me ski without snow, would transport me uphill to beat the lift queues and turn my wobbly skiing into expert ability.

Skis that turn in to chocolate so you can eat them if you get peckish half way down the mountain. Then they regenerate so you don't fall over when you start skiing again.

Or, 'come alive' skis that don't need carrying and follow you like a dog wherever you go. No more heaving them over the shoulder to get about.

Can we include poles too? I want a set of poles that work like an umbrella so you can keep them in your pocket if you want to, then flick them out when you need them.

Ooh ooh and skis of invisibility. So it doesn't matter how busy the runs are you can take any line you want and just pass through other people.

Sorry AC, my love of the mountains would mean that snow was mandetory. But I can see what you mean. What about if at the end of a days skiing, just as you put the skis away, (in a magic ski rack, where they replenish the magic used during the day), you just gives the skis a rub......and within minutes, the snow starts softly falling.....

Don't like the idea of uphill transport, surely magic skis can do better than that.
Can accept the idea of wobbly skiing into expert, but need better prose. Expert could read..."soar like an angel"

Chocolate ~ You girls!!!! Tony H wanted Zillertal Pils. I'm not sure. It would mean that skiers in France using the magic skis would save the most money, and would that be fair on those that loved Austria?
Then, if you girls are allowed unlimited chocolate, the magic skis might very quickly, have to be extra strong! :roll:

OTOH, Emma, you would be skiing so beautifully, with grace and style, why would you want to be invisible?

Nope. That's physically impossible Dave! :lol:

I got another one... nobody else seems to remember the cartoon that was on years ago, but it WAS real :evil: . Had Spiderman, Firewoman and Iceman in it. Iceman used to zap a path of ice everywhere he wanted to go. The magic skis could do that but with snow. Then you would be able to ski anywhere, no worries. Everyone else could be falling over in slush, and the magic skis would be gliding around. Plus shopping in Tesco would be much more fun.

Slush? did you say SLUSH??? Keep up Emma, when the skis are put away, it starts snowing. There is perfect powder, everywhere you ski. No ice.

Ah ok we'll have it everywhere then. Although that could be seen as greedy :lol: I hope it works in Tesco too though. Was kinda looking forward to that.

Likely story DM. My husband always uses the excuse that he was 'in the pub' as his reason for not remembering such important TV events.

Anyway, back to these magic skis.

I think a combination of what everyone else has said sounds perfect, I like the idea of my magic skis bringing cold sunny days from dawn until dusk with snow falling every night (which is what I always thought happened anyway), perfect corduroy or powder depending on my mood, and a delightful restaurant with either a deckchair outside or an armchair by the fire whenever I got tired (and I would get tired, I don't want my magic skis to take away the eating part of my mountain experience).

Thanks Nelly, and you raise an interesting point. If the magic skis make you feel like you are floating through the turns, how would a body get tired? On the other hand, although I ski from opening to close, I stop and talk to my austrian friends, join in the music, sit and admire the view acoss the Alps.
Mmmm, I think maybe we have to get to the pleasantly tired state. Yes, Ok, even with magic skis, tiredness is in there.

Have just realised that one of my sets of skis in Niederau are K2 Merlin! Also, my favourite run is the Maerchenwiess ~ The fairy meadow. Thats magical!
Just a few days left, and I have to formalise. How did I get these magic skis?

I've been thinking about this.
My skis ARE magic.
Because when I am on them, I am taken to a magical place a million miles from home, and am honoured enough to be skiing on snow in the mountains.
I think we are all blessed with this magic Dave speaks of.

Yea, but I know exactly what he means.

I'd want them to detect hidden object under the powder, rocks, roots etc.
Oh and it they can change shape depending on the snow that would be great, big and fat through the powder and narrowing once back on the piste.

My magic skis would have an invisible forcefield around them to stop out of control boarders and skiers bashing into me.

My magic skies called out to me as I walked past a stall at the ski show and I was drawn to them by some kind of magnetic field. :wink:

Thanks for the research, folks. All the responses are now cut and pasted, and I have until Friday night to stitch them together, before presenting them to one of the all time great lyricists, (in my mind, anyway!) for demolition!

I think he only wrote that cos Mrs. H read his first post and afterwards he felt he must add something based in reality to the conversation given the grilling he got )

Besides this, I can't contribute as I dont ski :( But if the same thought could be applied to my snowboard, I would wish it could detect stress, anxiety and a troubled mind; then simply dissapear me from the situation to something a snow based challenge just a tad above my experience/ability, so I can do nothing but concentrate on what is in front of me. Basically the reason I fell in love in the first place.

I think I would be with Tino on this one. My magic skis/board are the ones I put on in a boring meeting/lecture, or sitting in the doctor's waiting room. It's nice to have some runs that you know by heart. A run down a race course is particularly distracting.

All boarders were included in the spirit! You would of course ride a Magic Board.
OK, so the lyrics are complete, vastly improved during a workshop with Iain Mathews. I managed to keep in Tony's million miles, and Emma's chocolate, but not in a way she might benefit!
I got very lucky with the score, as another player was drifting a riff, and it fitted my stuff, fairly well,just a few additions/changes. Had time also to finish off one written a year earlier.
I'm now looking for a way to record with a couple of instruments, and, if succesful, will stick it on Youtube. I make no claims on either my playing or singing, but since skiing is my passion, it doesn't worry me to stick my neck out! I fully expect a few "Stick to skiing" comments, but that's OK! )
