Head i peak 78

Hi all, looking into the new Head i peak range and it seems the 78's come in 2 different styles. 1 with a top sheet of metal and 1 without. Will the metal just stiffen the ski up and if so which version would be better for me?

I like to occasionally ski fast but not at warp speed, im an advanced intermediate looking to improve all over the mountain.

Im after a all mountain ski which i can improve on, looking for something that will initiate turns quicker edge to edge etc

Thanks

Re:Head i peak 78

Are you referring to the monster 78 as the other ski? There are some comparisons in reviews on the epicski forum.

As far as metal? Most good skis, and especially those designed for on piste use will have some metal (normally titinal) in the construction. Titinal is expensive, so on the cheaper end skis, small pieces are strategically placed in the lay up to save money. Higher end skis have full sheets, often two of them. I think the thickness also varies with the quality of the skis. Titinal is used to dampen the tendency of a ski to boooong like a wooden ruler held against a school desk when flicked. This is good as it helps the ski to hold it's grip on the snow as it is bumped around by ruts, and small bumps. If you want to ski better on piste, especially when carving, metal is a big help.

Stiffer? maybe. It seems that metal negates some of the reasons skis used to stiffer. So the step up ski might be a little stiffer for more aggressive skiers, but not necessarily.

Ive already bought them now, i decided not to spend as much as what a pair scotts would cost... Ive already spent a fortune this time and i havent even got to the white stuff yet... I have to say though i got them at a very good price GBP345 inc bindings. cant grumble at all, rentals were going to be around the GBP100 mark for a week...

Happy with my decision and now cannot wait to use them :D
