Downhill boots for expert girl skiier with small feet and big calves. Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,
I'm an expert skier with tiny feet (UK3)and very muscly calves (sounds sexy, doesn't it?) I;ve also got thin ankles but quite wide in the front of the foot. I used to ski in really stiff Nordica gand prix racing boots, but I've been in touring boots for the last few years. I've found that these just aren't good enough for really ripping up especially in the crud, and I can't ski as aggressively as I used to.

Anyone got any experience in Full Tilts, Salomon Instinct CS and the Nordica range? Obviously I'll get properly fitted but just wanted to get some advice from other members!

Welcome to J2ski :D

I have Salomon Instinct CS, and skied about 45 days in mine so far.

My 2p's worth. I have low volume feet all over with narrow heels. I tried the standard liner to be akin to Moon Boots, just too much space for me. My boots now have Zipfits, which has enabled my wonderful and patient fitter (CEM on here) to inject extra material where needed! The sensation and feedback using the Zipfits is amazing, it's a feeling of being properly attached to my skis, for the 1st time.

I've also had skier alignment carried out, so I have sole plates fitted as the soles have been planed so I'm standing level now too! 8)

The cuff on my boots has been flared back to allow me to use a more upright stance, which is more comfortable.

There were a couple of other boots in the lineup for me at Mondopoint 25, (including Full Tilts) the Sallies were the best option for my feet. I really don't consider that I'm anywhere near expert in skill level, so the flex, which is smooth and progressive, may be too soft for you. I suggest that you contact CEM on here and see what your options are. Act soon, as stocks of boots seem to run out quickly at the start of each winter!

That's really helpful. I reckon I might be ok in salomon instincts as my feet sound wider than yours. What's CEM?

there are a number of boots which could fit the profile fo what you are looking for, most important thing is to get the heel and ankle secure, boots can be made wider in the fore foot is needs be, the calf should be a fairly simple fix also, we have a special jig for flaring the cuffs back as a pair so that they are same, with your foot size you are probably looking at size 22/22.5 shells (even if people say it should be a 23) make sure you get shell checked, this is the only way to actually see if the boot is the correct size...most manufacturers actually make their boots a bit on the big side so that they feel really comfortable when you first put them on, this is fine if you ski a week a seaosn and don't mind replacing them every 3 years or so but if you ski any more, the boot needs to be really quite tight at first, it will bed in to become just nice...that is the tricky bit (believing that it will)

as Bandit has said, don't leave it too long as small boots run out early in the season and i would strongly advise against buying at a ski show, to many people, not much attention and often part time staff dragged in doing the fitting
