New year skiing

Hi all,
Looking at getting in 2 weeks skiing this season but have limited leave left at work, so one of my weeks would have to be at the dredded xmas / new year week as my company shuts down.

Dont really want to pay throught the nose even thou i know i will have to pay extra.
Do you guy's have any ides on best place to ski this time of year that wont be massivly overcroweded and wont require a mortgage?

Forgot to mention i am intermediate level so no black runs yet please ! :D

Where do you fly from? Can you get a low cost flight to the Alps?

We find that Christmas tends to be a bit quieter than the craziness that is New Year, so if you could go out earlier you might avoid a few of the huge queues.

Yes can get to alps ok as based in midlands so can get to most airports why?

Does anyone have info for me on french pyrenees - looking at new year in mont D'olmes or Ax-les-Thermes. I live in Toulouse so want no more than a 2 hour travel time from there.

The purpose of this was to assess the opportunities for diy. I was surprised to discover there seems to no low cost carriers go to Munich, Innsbruck or Salzburg. So you might be looking for a TO.
Iglu are showing a range of GBP450+ offers to Bulgaria and Andorra, and GBP540~ GBP600 offers to Ital, France, Austria.
You asked about snow depth, and I was interested enough to research the Iglu snow history record. It was remarkable about how similar the snow depths were. I felt that the one that stood out was Sauze d'Oulx.
My view is that at this time of year, the DIY has become costly, mainly because of flights. I have a good NY deal, but it was organised in July.

Whenever I want to find out about flights from various places, I use this website called flightmapping.com. It's really useful. Here's a link about places you can fly to from Manchester - just scroll down the list you'll see Geneva, Munich, Salzburg to name but a few.

Ian, Easy go to Innsbruck from Bristol, Liverpool, Gatwick. To Salzburg from Bristol & Gatwick, and to Munich from Edinburgh Gatwick, Stanstead & Manchester.

I think based in the midlands he should have plenty of options for cheaper flights, Stansted is not a million miles away.

Yes I would reccommend Christmas week too. Especially in our lovely Chatel. Only 1hr 20mins from Geneva. It's in the Portes du Soleil so plenty of runs of all levels - but Chatel is not commercialised so retains charm and isn't over priced.
Hotel Castellan is nice for a 2 star hotel, or I think my friend has space at Christmas at her rather fabulous (great value) chalet at savoiefaire.co.uk

DeeDee. Hi there,I'm just north of you Bordeaux.
Been to Andorra a couple of times. Little more than 2 hrs from you. If you find out about French Pyranees stuff, happy to chat about it.
