Resorts for Two Ladies in Their Forties Beginning Skiing

I wonder if anybody can recommend any good resorts with resonably priced ski schools. I went skiing for the first time last year with my daughter. We went to Poiana Brasvo in Romania because we got a great all inclusive deal. The tuition was great although there was a distinct lack of skill on my part, however, I want to try again next year although in a resort that is not so crowded and has more chair lifts. The queues in Poina for the drag lifts were crazy and verging on unsafe. Next year I am going with a friend so basically a resort for two beginner ladies who are in their forties although physically fit don't want to spend a fortune. Advice last year from this forum was great so hoping for the same again. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, we need to try and get the cheapest deal we can so it is likely to be early 2011 and therefore snow is a concern. Could do with being somewhere that has reliable snowfall in January/early Feb and is not Zermatt!

Even early February falls into the European school holiday period. Normally the cheapest week is the first weekend in January. This year is a bit odd, in that the first week is a 4 or 5 day holiday in many places ~ dead cheap!
So pretty well equal, second week in January and March is about the same, for low cost with snow.
On balance, March has better snow in the Alps, and there is more sunshine and daylight.

Les menuire is too expensive, better suited to larger groups (imo) and I would not recommend the place for beginners.

Soldeu will suit your budget, is good for beginners and is a friendly enough town for two 'ladies' in there 40's. You can trust me on this one because I am a lady in my 40's also...shut it Wickers!

Two Italian resorts which might suit you are Prato Nevoso and Folgarida. Both are small friendly villages with great beginner runs to boost confidence.

(from lady in her fifties who learnt to ski when 39/40 ish) :D

It's as good a choice as any, the ski schools are very good. Snow conditions in Jan/Feb should be good.

I will be returning there in Febuary with my family & i am in my forties.

Finn

Going to be there for two weeks staying at Pension Marriane. Will head over to Kitz & the Skiwelt a few times. Quite a few of us heading out so it should be a good trip.
Unfortunately Jan was always out this year due to work.
Dave, we will just have to plan things better next time.

Finn
