Well, we have booked our 1st Ski holiday for next year.
St Moritz on 16th Jan.
So excited, I thought I would ask people what on their shopping list for next season?

My items are: -

Caramel Sallopettes
Scott Aztex Skis

Thats all I need at the moment.

Well done on getting your first break booked.... im all giddy about the coming season and ive had my holiday booked for 4 months.... :O) going to Val Thorens...

Looking to buy a new pair of all mountain skis this yr which will cater for off piste better than my current skis. No idea what to get though and looking for advice..

Already bought a new jacket, Haglof Jaw, and as soon as the pants are released ill buy those to match.

im booked up for a trip to tignes in jan and hoping to do val thorens in march. got a new board in the end of season sales but am in need of new boots and a new jacket before jan so fingers crossed santa will bring me one of them :)

I chucked my boots in a bin in Mayrhofen in April, guess I'll need some of them!!

I thought that Club Med deal in St Moritz sounded very good indeed. I hope you have a great time.

So far I have only been able to buy our morning train tickets out to Moutiers, for our holiday in Courchevel. There is some problem with the night return tickets and Eurostar aren't selling them yet. But in any case, I think I will get the French sleeper train to Paris instead, and then get the Eurostar from Paris back to London. That way I will still be able to get my extra day ski-ing and possibly also get some sleep on the train (as the overnight Eurostar isn't a sleeper train). But the French train won't be available for me to book until the end of November.

And my apartment isn't available for me to book, yet either. So altogether I'm not doing very well with booking my next holiday.

I'm not buying any new gear. I can't afford it, and I don't need anything anyway.

Well i have my Jacket, bought in the sales in March

I need to get some Sallo's, maybe a dark grey and possibly a helmet although i haven't decided on that yet.

Definately going to see Colin in the Autumn for some boots.

Other than that, just the little bits...a new beanie, possible some gloves.

I quite fancy some of those caramel sallo's....they sound well tasty.

only the 1 thing on my shopping list for next season...a ski chalet, just starting to research the ins and outs of buying abroad etc etc, but initial thoughts would be the 3 valleys area :wink: :wink: :wink:

Are you serious Freezywater? Are you really going to buy a whole chalet in the 3 Valleys?

Well, in that case, I am thinking of buying my own ski resort somewhere very close to a train station in France :wink:

And I'm going to employ my own ski instructor - someone with a very good sense of humour who doesn't mind picking up all the detritus I leave behind when I fall over - like skis and sticks etc.

And, all my ski lifts will either be solar powered or run on hydro-electricity generated by my own environmentally friendly dam.

And, I will buy several mountain restaurants serving excellent vegetarian foods, like vegetarian tartiflette, and non alcoholic drinks like Schloer, and tea made with proper tea bags not that horrible tisane stuff.

And, there won't be any pushing in the lift queues in my resort - anyone doing so will be sent home instantly.

Oh yes - and all the hotel and apartment rooms will have heating that can be turned off/down at night so that no-one's nose blocks up, and humidifiers will be supplied on request.

Everyone else being serious and then AllyG goes and spoils it.

The reason for Caramel Sallopettes is that I have a Green TNF jacket and they look superb with the Caramel Sallos.
I tried a pair on in Ellis Brigham last year but could not force myself to part with 200 notes.

It could be worse, my OH wants a pair of Chanel Skis costing a reasonable 2700gbp.

This is my imaginary shopping list for the season ahead - an idyllic ski resort all my own.

What, no customers for my ski resort? :shock:

I will have alcahol and meat as well as the alternatives in my mountain restaurants. Most importantly I will always have very good snow, and my lifts will never be closed because of the wind etc. and the piste map will be totally accurate and all the pistes will be well marked and never overcrowded. During the day it will always be sunny and plenty of snow will fall overnight. Plus, it will be snowboard and child friendly. And, there will never be any avalanches so everyone can ski off-piste quite safely if they would like to.

Sorry Dave, no free lift passes for my friends - I have a lot of friends :lol:

But it's a good point. I haven't finished working out my finances yet, but I'm hoping to sell beer at GBP2-50 per pint, tea and coffee at GBP1 per cup, soup and a roll for GBP4, ham, egg and chips for GBP5, and local lift passes for GBP120 for 6 days (there are 150 Km piste in my resort - a nice mix of green, blue, red and black runs).

And another thing, my resort is guaranteed to be injury free, so it will be a great place to practice those somersault things etc. in the snow park. Most particularly, there will be no toes broken on the mogul fields :lol:

Proposed get up for the season...

I am getting this (172cm hopefully, hard to find) as an engagement present from the missus who was dismayed that I wanted to spend more than 40 quid on a ring :mrgreen: Thanks for the tip Trencher!!

For complete freeride support.

Sticking with last seasons bindings, cos they are so quick to get into. Only once have they opened unexpextedly, on the Hara Kiri of all places :oops:

Clotheswise I am taking the 2 soft shell approach this year rather than the padded and skirted insulated jacket route:

Its not fluorescant, its like a grass green and its amazing. And now thats my decision made, thanks. Green it is.

I have several items to buy ,,but first let me tell you a great strategy I use in regards to my ski equipment!
During the ski season, whenever I realize I am "missing" an item I note it down! Whenever a ski article lets me down, I note why!

Then in the "low" season I look around!
Looking for a jig for VIST bindings (very rare)! Yes I will pay anyone who has one!
Looking for an old old ski sign for Jan's Inn!
Looking for a very old leather lace ski boot size 10 ( 1940 circa)
Need more 1 kilo wax bars

Happy to be back to "civilization"!

Well I don't 'need' anything because I spent a fortune on new everything (except skis) when my suitcase was left on the bus in January! (Yes I am still harping on about it)

I do 'want' a new pair of skis but I might wait until I've got to know the ski shop owners in Morzine. :wink:

I'll probably buy another hat before I go. :lol:

Winters coming, winters coming, tra la la la la :)

This weekend I got a nice hiking shirt and some TNF Summit Seriex Apex alpine pants with gators which cleverly double as winter hiking apparel and spring, summer and autumn sliding pants. In black of course, so with my red jacket from the same range I look like a dead serious skier, but still no intention of giving up the tea tray ;)

Oh, and I got an apartment in Zermatt :P

Pavel, I was given one leather, lace up ski boot, c1950, (my ski buddy, Mel, got the other) They previously belonged to the wife of the owner of the Austrian haus we used to live in. More precious than most of my ski stuff.

Hi all - my first post here and this seems to be the most appropriate thread as my shopping has begun already.

Just got my new boots from CEM due mainly to the rave reviews I'd seen here.(after years of pain and profit for ibuprofen producers) Bought early as my small feet best fitted race boots at a bloke's size that I guess is made in low numbers. (Left it too late two years ago and couldnt get any). They're getting their first run at Hemel in a couple of weeks time to see if the tightness in the ankle needs another look.

Got myself a great deal on a Head hotgearbag.

Just need to pick up some short-*$^* salopettes when stock for new season appears online. Expecting to have to buy from US though....

Appears the tiny volume of my feet and skiing needs are a good match for the Atomic RT CS100 race boot - when CEM measured me up a couple of years back it was too late in the season to find a 23/23.5.... then the credit crunch hit but I'm hitting the slopes again this season.

Big white and red boots were too subtle so we've tweaked them with some Union Jack buckles :D Missed the beer and pies offer though... (it was 9am)

Had lots of problems in the past with boots - invariably smashing toes - and I know now that I've been wearing 'buckets' for the most part.

ahhh they sound very similar to my boots-i got them 3 weeks from the end of last season and had to get some work done on them but i love them, make such a difference-i went for the 140s cos im a heavy sod!

I may be repeating what already been said here because havent read all 5 fives of this thread but ellis brigham and TSA have a mental sale on just now-after this season i need new trousers and gloves and there are some crazy deals atm

I just ordered a Prior MFR (freeride) 176cm board with a pro-tune (1deg base bevel, 88deg side edge, standard tip and tail detune, hotbox wax, with racing finish on the base) for less than 300Euro. Ex-demo, used 5 times prior to retuning, direct from manufacturer.

A full 8cm longer than my longest board at 168cm, only to be used on big powder days and for carving.

Me a happy boy.

Well I am 6'3" or 190cm depending on how I feel, so it's up to my eyeline rather than between chin and nose, but I like a long board, especially for glacier carving (hence the edges) and powder. It won't be my first choice crowded piste cruiser

My new board has been stuck in customs at Cologne for nearly a week!! Only today would anyone at Fedex call me back to let me know whats going on.

On a more positive note my new boots arrived today and they are super stiff, extremely easy to get on and off and look quite groovy too :D Allthough sitting on the sofa in them for 3 hours has left my feet numb :oops:

Wouldn't worry too much about your BB. Last year I stacked it hard just off piste and didn't think much of it until I went to take a picture over two hours later. Instead of my BB I found only a gaping and very empty pocket (having continually reminding my OH to zip up her pockets all week!!) Unbelievably and with a bit of assistance from a couple of friends I found it laying in a 'me sized' hole and it was absolutely fine!

Shoppingwise (?) I'll just be happy if I can get my new boots to feel a bit more comfortable. Damn my funny shaped feet! And maybe a new hat....and perhaps some gloves......and....whichever bargains tempt me at TK Maxx!

So, I popped into Ellis Brigham in Westfield yesterday to kill a couple of hours and picked up 2 new jackets in the sales. The green North Face 4 point jacket I was going to order was 25% off in store, and I found a lovely Patagonia jacket for Mrs H at half price (normally GBP220) which is in a lovely turquoise/blue colour:

I've had a look at the sales in central London and at the Hemel Snow and Rock yesterday - good prices and interesting stock but not for midgets like me :wink:

Going to have to wait for end of September for new stock in store so I can try to find small short salopettes. Quite fancy something not too baggy but guess that means expensive thinner material for the warmth (Arcteryx or Spyder?) The Obermeyer stuff in the US looks like it's the right inseam length but no UK stockists....

Picked up one of last years Dakine Heli bag things as I tired of having stuff in my pockets. Has anyone tried using a camelbak hydration pouch in the Alps and found that it freezes on them?

New CEM-fitted boots got a trial run yesterday. My toes and arches survived intact and pain free- Very happy as a result.

the better half went a bit nuts at a TNF sale in Glasgow, I ended up with base layers, mid layers, hiking shirt, hoodie, 2 jackets and a doubletrack 28 case/luggage thing. Showing my age and impending mid-life crisis, I spent most the week playing with the luggage.

You hit the nail on the head Trencher :) I have even been seen pricing up poles of all things!! The walking type before anyone asks.

Someone mention mid life.. Im doing stupid things like a marathon, triathlon, Great North Swim and trying out Kite Surfing! Getting a bike or a convertable would be so much easier!
