iPod friendly helmets.

Ok guys,

Putting aside the debate of whether or not you should be plugged into your iPod whilst on the slopes i would like to hear from anyone who uses either the standard ipod headphones with a helmet or the newer helmets with built in speakers.

I am a big fan of music whilst skiing and so far just use my standard headphones tucked under my hat. But next year i am planning to buy a helmet and would like to know how comfortable headphones are underneath them. Also how good the dedicated helmet systems really are.

Many thanks

Jon

Most helmet brands to built in 'earphones'. None of them are as good as decent standard earphones.

Yep. Giro 'tune ups' for a 'Fuse' helmet. I'd never use headphones that aren't 'in-ear' again so far me they were rubbish especially compared to my usual ones.

I stopped listening to music whilst skiing a couple of years ago.

What DaveC says is right. I hate Apple's own earphones though.

Thanks, when i say standard i mean 'in ear' but only the ones you get with an ipod/iPhone. I have some sennheiser ones that plug in really deep but they feel weird to me because the cut out nearly all background noise and i feel really isolated.....does that make sense? I know they would stay put but i just don't like them....its like having blocked ears. On the plus side the bass on them is awesome.

Re:iPod friendly helmets.

I don't listen to music when I'm on the snow, but it seems to me that if you are using ear buds, that a helmet with soft ear panels might allow you to adjust the ear buds without removing the helmet. That might be useful on very cold days. In my experience, well fitting helmets don't move around. I do occasionally get an itchy ear, which is a pain to scratch in a helmet with hard sides.

Of course the earth is flat - how could it be otherwise? I mean, if it was round, we'd all fall off

And as for ipods and ski-ing, I'm with Ian on this one. It's not our fault that no-one (as far as I know) has done any research into the incidence of ski-ing accidents while listening/not listening to ipods.

I know it's very dangerous when cyclists (our road is a cycle route) are listening to them, because they can't hear me coming round the bends in my car and I nearly run over them - in fact I nearly squashed a whole batch of them the other day - they were right across our single track road on a bend.

Ally

I mean, if it was round, we'd all fall off

And as for ipods and ski-ing, I'm with Ian on this one. It's not our fault that no-one (as far as I know) has done any research into the incidence of ski-ing accidents while listening/not listening to ipods.

I know it's very dangerous when cyclists (our road is a cycle route) are listening to them, because they can't hear me coming round the bends in my car and I nearly run over them - in fact I nearly squashed a whole batch of them the other day - they were right across our single track road on a bend.

Ally

Gosh, at last some sense at last.......

Rossyhead,
My daughter does the same, unless of course she has a particularly irritating ski instructor, in which case she puts them both in

Ally

Re:iPod friendly helmets.

My helmet has speakers in the ear pieces and the ipod plugs into the back of the helmet. This way I can listen to music but as I dont have any sort of "bud" in my ear blocking out any external sound I can hear other skiiers around me which I think is important.
