Re:Avalanche Trans Pieps Freeride

I read all the necessary very recently and settled on the Ortovox S1 but I do have good experiences with the BCA Tracker and the Ortovox S1. In the end it is down to what works for you and how much practice you get how effective they will be.

Facewest has good comments about them all, based on that I'd avoid the Freeride:

http://www.facewest.co.uk/Pieps-Freeride.html

Can't remember. Nowhere near trade. Sport-conrad have some good used deal packages. If you can't find them on the website you should give them an email.

Re:Avalanche Trans Pieps Freeride

In the end I got an S1, Ortovox Professional Alu II and a 240cm Ortovox Light PFA Probe. Sport-Conrad is listing that package at Euro400 (quite a lot off full retail).

Re:Avalanche Trans Pieps Freeride

In my opinion there are some very good reasons to not get the Freeride over the DSP.

The freeride is a one antenna transciever with only a 30m search strip. It will need to be orientated to the transiever you are searching for to get an accurate direction and could potentially waste valuable seconds in a real situation.

The DSP is a three antenna with a 50m search strip. (in practice can be up to 60m). It can cope with multiple burials and is very straight forward and easy to use.

I would only recommend three antenna transceivers now. They have become the standard for a reason.

Yes the F1 Focus is analogue, 1 signal only. I have one. Been around forever, pretty robust, needs practice to get the best result!
