I am thinking of going this week skiing i have got a flight to geneva for monday night, is it still worth it, or am i to late

I shall still be skiing this week, and shortly I shall be heading up the hill to bag the freshies :D

All depends on the flights for you, not sure if you'll get here....

Happened to be in Italy on business last week headed up to Les Gets to get one last days skiing. Got three instead due to volcano; slushy low down but gret on Chamosiere. Les Gets now closed so off to Avoriaz today! Hope to return home via car and ferry on Wed.

Chamonix is open for two more weekends, it was great last weekend (April 11). Go to Argentier, it's high and North-facing. And as rain is forecast for this week, there is a chance of some fresh snow at the top of Grand Montets.

:) This Saturday in Zermatt met two Finnih guys who were on business in Italy and couldn't leave since last Thursday. So they headed straight to Cervinia, hired full kits and are probably still skiing now as I write this - they were talking about getting a car and driving on Wednesday:)

Avoriaz today was really good! That is the last ski this season for sure!

I've just made an effort and decided to hang up my skis till next season. it was a great season for me, especially relativly to my prior expectations. After missing the whole of last season for various reasons I thought it would be a season for me to get my ski legs back but instead I managed to move to bigger, taller and stiffer skis than I'd used to ski on and progress on them on a more technical terrain. Lesson learned this season - when undecided between the two lengths of a ski, go longer! Tons of benefits for the minor extra efforts! I am 167 and under 8 stones and skied my first 4 seasons on 156 beginner skis, skipped a season and now I can ski very confidently a ski at 165, and I know that I'll never buy a ski again if it's smaller than 170. My second best season so far in terms of progress, the best always being the first one, when from not knowing what to do with planks attached to my feet I moved to being able to ski even blacks when they are not icy (on my little Volkl Energy 320). Was seriously tempted to go to Chamonix on Saturday, but I've already got loads from my season so I'll be getting ready for summer and take my bike out instead!

Looks like the future Mrs 11 isn't gonna make it down from Helsinki on Friday and my old friends from Glasgow look unlikely to make it from Glasgow either. So that means cancelling dinner reservations. Whilst doing this my fingers slipped and I accidentally typed in www.Zermatt.ch by accident and discovered that 90% of it's still open. With a big work committment cancelled due to those crazy Icelanders and their hot spa, I could concievably take Friday off and get 3 more days on the slopes. Hmmm?!?!

Anyone up for it?

only been back from our ski trip for a month and having to feed our fix with a weekly trip to chill factor. good luck to all of you who are still out there, you lucky things.

Looks like extra days are out for me. Maybe a total of 15 this year (not counted and not sure), 10 down on last despite the season being loads better :(

Next year has to be the year.

Circa: 39 days done, 8 in Chile planned, maybe 3 in Zermatt this weekend. Gonna be short of my goal of 60. Still, it's the end of my 3rd full season and it's the only way I know to forget life. To quote no one at all "what use is a big pension, given a boring life". Make hay whilst the sun shines my friends.

Wise words, good effort on the season. Just wait until retirement comes and you can get 150 days ;)

Just back from Zermatt, I can confirm that most of the area is open. Slushy spring conditions lower down, and the weird little guy is playing the piano in the bar in the main st.

Just finished work, have tomorrow off, now heading for a beer to decide if I go to Zermatt or not. Won't get 3 full days as I can't be arsed travelling tonight, but 2.5 will do me nicely.

Bandit, did you get over to Cervinia? What were conditions like over there?

Tino, didn't go over to Cervinia, due to me getting a half price tcket for Zermatt only :D However there were lots of Italians skiing the Zermatt side.

1st time for me using the full blown Matterhorn Express. So much better than before, a seat....all the way to Trockner Steg

Tino, the black run from Furg to Furi is open and skiable....or in your case ) .

Zermatt will still have lots of squaddies about, and PdG competitors as it's on until the 25th.

I love that run, imagine it's a bit interesting on the narrow section just before the wee run out to the restaurant. I rode that in May last year to discover that section cut in two by a landslide. That'll be why it was closed :)

Will be my 6th time in Zermatt, 5th this season.

i couldn't go last week because of the ash i am thinking of going to Tignes on Sunday.
