Money Stolen

Has any one had any experience of money going missing from the accommodation while skiing, our group stayed in P&V in Arc 1950 and 4 off us came back after a good day of skiing, just to find money missing

Its a no from me however I have to confess that I don't usually leave money lying around as I carry what nominal cash I have on me and try to pay with most things on the card.

Did you have a lot go missing?

No from me too, but a member of my sister's group had wallet nicked last week in Les Contamines....
From a mountain restaurant.

Others left theirs in apartment all week, no problems.
Re:Money Stolen

There's some real scumbags around using any opportunity to ruin someone's hard earned holiday. Without wanting to sound patronising, I presume a safe / deposit box wasn't available?
I carry the minimum amount of cash with me for lunch and drinks and then keep the rest locked in the room safe.

Re:Money Stolen

Certainly not what you would expect from somewhere like that... Have you complained to them direct since you have been home?

Re:Money Stolen

Always, and I mean always split your risk when travelling. Be it 20 minutes on the bus or a safari in Kenya. Keep a card and half your cash in your wallet/purse, and keep the rest in a different article of your clothing. Even if you were to be mugged they would likely find the first and run. Lose your jacket and there is enough to get home etc etc.

Re:Money Stolen

I don't usually keep more than about 50 euros in the apartment and 50 euros in my ski jacket pocket. I also always keep all my cards and both our passports in my jacket pocket. My financial back up is that I put some of my money on my daughter's card for emergency use and she keeps her card in her pocket - she had a lovely time spending it all after we got home :D

I hope whoever it was who lost all that money gets it back from their insurers.

There has only been one occasion when we thought someone might possibly have stolen something from us. When we were shown into our room in our very posh 4 star hotel room in Obergurgl, the guy said there was a present for us in our room. Well, we ransacked the room looking for a present  and we couldn't find one anywhere  The only clue we found was a bottle shape in the snow on our balcony. We always wondered if they'd put a bottle out there for us and someone had nicked it ...

Ally
