It weren't me who starred it...but I think there is a chance that some people get comments from the person who opened this thread if they talk about personal subjects or go off thread.
Perhaps as the word skiing wasn't even mentioned someone felt it was not worthy of being posted.
Have to admit I also thought 'whatever' when I read it too.

Great you got Ian to tune your skis for you, how did you swing that one?

Doing my own tuning is something I should really take the time and effort to learn. Especially with 5 pairs of skis :lol:

I'm glad to hear you've had a good day, I have too. Sold quite a bit of excess ski gear on ebay, visited a really nice school, and chatted ski and future plans with a fellow addict. Now I'm just relaxing waiting for my dinner. Happy days! :D

My word, it always amazes me when I open a thread entitled "Today" and before opening it, think, what is 4 pages worth of "Today" and ending up with so much drama from something so simple.

Tony, glad you had a good day today which has unfortunately been marred by someone obviously who has it in the neck for you. I think too many posts which are inoffensive have been 1 starred to make it something actually relevant to what the star system is about. I think the star system is being used as some sort of vengence about something you may have said in previous posts that has narked someone. I dont think it would have mattered what the post was about. I think the star system should be disabled as it is pretty pointless.

So, Dave, when you move "up North" give me a bell and I'll make you a cuppa and a nice ham and pease pudding sarnie lol

I think Karen you have hit the nail on the head. There is someone out there who quite simply doesnt like me, or my style of posting, and rather than actually come out and say it, they think that by one starring me it will have the desired effect until my overall rating goes down further, thus in their opinion making me a low graded poster on this site.

Over the couple of years I have been on here, I would say the following people would be likely to one star me:

Ise
Dave Mac (although he has said he hasn't and has in fact 5 starred me sometimes for good posts)
Babyshambles, who came back via several handles and got banned, but could well be lurking somewhere in the background

I would much rather someone come out and say what their beef is, but that would be asking too much of the sort of pathetic person it is who is doing this, so I assume it will carry on. I can post anything, and it may well get one starred. Poor old me.

Anyway, sadly this is yet another thread that has been turned into a discussion on star ratings, and in my opinion the sooner the rating system is done away with, the better, as it will prevent the pathetic ldiot who is doing this (to other posters as well by the look of it) from being able to do so, and maybe - just maybe, they may actually come out and say something.

I don't know about any one else but I like to picture what people are like who post on J2ski, why I like this thread is that going back and rereading the
postings has helped a lot to picture a little more about the posters, and by the way that is meant in a nice way. :wink:

TBO I have toyed with the servicing idea idea but I just enjoy doing it and as I said to Tony I learnt how to do it from the internet it is really not difficult, there are some set up costs and some limitations as to what I can do
eg base grind but its a bit of fun......... if your ever passing your more than welcome to a free service. 8)

I agree with you, you did do exactly what Tony asked people to do - write a response to him rather than going 'undercover' and giving him one star. So he should have been more polite to you (and Dids).

And you are certainly entitled to a voice here - all members are.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion hence why TonyH ruffels some feathers occasionally but its like the real world not everyone can agree with another persons views so its a choice of put up and shut up or voice your opinion...

I'll admit to having one starred some of Tony's posts... but from what I see I am by no means the only person and certainly not the most prolific of one starrers. I see many posts from him one starred that I had nothing to do with.

In some cases Tony's attitude comes accross as close to "f**k you, I'm right". Some posts like this thread were as Private Ryan said... Totally pointless. If you want to say:

On a public forum then at least let people know what you are talking about (or send him a PM). Just posting something like that gives the impression that you are full of yourself or only posting to a small clique that already know what you are talking about. I see many other posts like this that seem to bring very little value to the forum such as telling people who choose to wear helmets that they "Look like numpties"

If you are getting one stars how about looking to yourself and see why that post might have deserved a one star rather then just saying someone is out to get me.

I'm now waiting for multiple ones stars for this post, even though I don't think I am the phantom one starrer.

Unfortunately I don't believe in grading people, or I'd give you 5 stars myself for bravery and honesty (not for one starring people though).

Hopefully, now you will be brave enough to write a polite response explaining what you object to in someone else's post, rather than just giving them one star. And that way, we will all be able to improve our posts, once we know what's wrong with them.

Mine are usually too long - so that's all I'm saying for now :D

In my opinion thats also pointless. This thread from Tony as it was put did not deserve 6 pages of posting for what is essentially just noise. Giving a star for a post like that shows that people don't hold the thread in high regard. Replying and saying why just leads to people ending up fighting on the forum and getting tit for tat. If your post is one starred then maybe its time for some introspection to see why it was one starred rather then starting a flame war in a thread.

Well I sincerely apologise for having posted the thread in the first place, it was not intended to offend anyone, and yet here we all are slagging me off.
Yes, I got annoyed when 2 people had a pop at me and I gave a perhaps unnecessary response, but I would have thought people could look at a thread and if it offers no value to them or is of no interest to them, they can move away from it as oppose to provoking or making negative comments on it?

What I find odd is that someone has said that I am full of myself and that I think only my opinion is right. This is where is becomes obvious to me that it is almost impossible to detect tongue in cheek comments and sarcasm on a forum. I have said to others before, its only a forum, why do some people have to take it so seriously? I have my opinions on things, and luckily we are all different and we don't share everyone else's opinions in life. It does not mean I think mine are right and everyone else's are wrong. I have never said that. I post on here in order to sometimes offer helpful advice when questions are asked, if I have some knowledge on the subject, and at other times I post in order to try and add some humour, but it looks like there are a few people who either don't have a sense of humour or who just don't understand mine.
However, I don't think you will find me posting something and saying that it is correct, and any other opinion is wrong. On this forum there are a lot of regular posters from whom I have gained valuable knowledge, and I have thanked them accordingly for this, and it should not matter if I choose to publicly do that or privately. If it doesn't affect you, why bother responding? Just move on to the next thread.

So here we are with 6 pages of arguments, potential falling outs, different opinions, a bit of locking horns and antlers, a bit of personal slagging off, and generally a public dressing down of me and my posts, and all because I posted to thank a friend for making it a good day. If that's the way people feel about me and my posting on here, maybe I should hang up the keyboard and knock it on the head?

Anyway, my humble apologies for starting this thread in the first place, and further apologies for the verbal attack on Private Ryan and Dids in response to what I felt at the time were attacks on me.
