Pictures for anyone who just likes looking

I was bored this evening, having not had the best of days today, so I decided to flick through my skiing photos and put together a little collection of pictures I particularly like, which make me think of the good times or take me back to certain places. I hope some of you recognise some of these places, or just enjoy looking at them:

I have been told I need an SLR. But my little Kodak fits nicely in my ski jacket pocket.

I took my digital SLR camera with me last week but it stayed in the hotel all week. Was worried about falling over and landing on it. Pocket sized digi can still produce some quality shots.

I throw the dSLR in my pack. Have taken a couple of fairly viscous tumbles this season and it is totally fine.

Been looking at a Canon G11 as middle ground but just don't want to spend the money.

Nice photos Tony, photo number six from the top looks like a vertical ski rink and may offer a challenge :roll:

I don't know about the others, but number 9 is from your recent holiday in Serre Chevalier. I remember looking at it and thinking that was presumably your wife, and how relaxed she looks on such a horribly steep slope :shock:

She's obviously a very good skier :D

if you want an alternative to the g11 this is an earlier competitor of it ...

Cant say im a fan of the colouring you have done in some of those pics Tony.
Blue never works in snow scenes as it just makes it look like your WB is way off!

That was taken just over the lip of a steep entrance to a red in Arcalis, Andorra, with the snow cannon not in operation.

Great photos, must all have great memories too. I came into work on Monday morning with a Monday morning feeling but switched on my PC and was greeted with a wonderful view from the top of Cime Caron from two weeks ago which brightend me up for the week ahead. (if I work out how to add a photo here I'll upload it some time)

No I can't name the resorts but where is photo no 4? I like the look of the tree lines pistes.

Tony,
I am no good at all at recognizing pistes and mountains, but I do remember things that interest me. And I remember that you went on holiday to Serre Chevalier last year with a load of snow boarders and so I'd guess that's where the jumping snow boarder (photo number 5) was taken.

I may be wrong but would this have been taken from the balcony of the Auhof in dare I say it Niederau ... ?! :-)

For the record - I don't like the blue either but the other pics are cool. Feel free to slag any of my photos... there are plenty about. Although I do agree, you can't complain if you don't put up any yourself ;)

The first one looks like it could be the link the between Sauze and Sestriere (in a bad year - we managed to ski across.)
The one with the parallel drags looks like the Bowl in Sauze, but could be mistaken.....

I should really stop looking at ski photos - I'm getting withdrawal symptoms and it's a long time 'till next season!!!! :( Feeling even more fed up as my plans to have couple of days skiing in the US whilst away with work have been thwarted by the BA strike. They cancelled all my flights and it was going to cost twice as much to go with an alternative company so had to call the whole thing off. :evil:

I remember you talking about a weird one man lift where people go both ways, I'd go with Sauze too.
Fourth one is a fond view of mine.
seventh one is my favourite, really eerie.

No, its actually the top section of the Ahorn in Mayrhofen. The 2 drags were taken out 2 years ago and replaced with a modern 8 man chair.

The 1 man in indeed the Sauze/Sestriere link. That chair was only open about 1 day I was there in 2 separate weeks, and it was minus 19, and coming the other way was a guy in a kilt!

I've been there, (if this is the bit where you've just come off the gondola) but it wasn't like that!
It was early April, 2 years ago, chucking it down with snow and a strong wind to contend with too. We didn't hang about!

That looks cold too, but much brighter.

Sorry Tony, didn't mean that to come across as an insult.
As a photographer i see many a good photo ruined by over enthusiastic post processing, its a pet hate of mine.

If you are talking about mine the top one was taken with my phone, the rest were taken with a low end dSLR. (Canon EOS 350d).

I Managed to buy this on ebay paid GBP51.00 for it, its technically brilliant, quite complicated :) will be taking it to St. G will post some piccys.
