has it been a good season or not?

just wandered what people thought of the season so far, personaly i went to les arc in jan and flaine in march ,enjoyed both very much,going to val thorens for the last week of the season which shall be differnt as i have skied so late but it should be fun

Scotland has been excellent. I get the impression that many places have experienced below-average snowfalls.

Its been an odd season with the weather, but I have to say Alpe D'Huez early Jan offered me more powder than I have ever had on a trip before, and Serre Che 2 weeks ago had far more snow than this time last year. Plus, personally, my skiing has come on that bit more so for me its been my best season yet.
I haven't heard of anyone complaining of it being bad.

Where I go in Finland you can guarantee lots of snow from about Nov to May. Went mid Jan again this year and def lots more snow than same time last year.
My boarding improved, I was able to get down slopes that I struggled with last year. My X country skiing was a lot faster, I felt a lot fitter, despite not really doing much to stay fit. I managed to walk for miles (once I got some new boots). I was not so afraid on snowmobiles, I managed to drive a team of huskies for 32km, managed to reindeer sleigh. Actually took part in ice karting, instead of being a spectator. Also plucked up courage to do an excursion where you put a thermal suit and a flotation suit and helmet, lie down on a fast flowing river and float down with the current, the weather was -30.
So despite my 1 ski holiday this year I have come on in leaps and bounds. :lol:

good on you rose, sounds like you had a brill time. Finland is definitley somewhere i fancy but i worry it would be too cold for the kids

It is cold especially in Jan, but warms up more about March time but with the right clothes its fine, just need more layers. Thermal gear is always provided if you need it on excursions. The kids would love it.

Mixed season for me. We lost November, it just didn't get cold. December and January were not bad. We had a lot of snow and some very cold weather. February was ideal. Most nights minus teens, and most days, sunny with highs just below freezing. It was the best months weather I can remember. Then March came, and a warming system settled in for nearly three weeks. Several days of rain destroyed the snow. Most ski areas closed this weekend. I did get one last hurrah, and a chance to try my new skis this last weekend. I find I need to know when it's the last day, and savour the feelings for daydreams later.

Very good season - Two weeks of skiing in Austria and Italy - progressing well and looking forward to an even better three week season next year as I am just finishing decorating the house at the moment. The manager has no excuse now, so it looks like a cheeky week in March 2011 :wink: It was also nice to watch the winter olympics on our return for Italy. Helped with the post skiing blues!

"Different" season for me, in the past we've always been at Feb half term and one other trip. This year we went xmas - new year, mid March and we're off again at Easter.

Our 26 Dec - 2 Jan trip had the worst skiing weather I can remember, only half a day of sun, too warm, rain at 2,000+m. The March trip was great, plenty of base snow and still cold.

Based on the last couple of years I think we'll give up the Christmas trip, its expensive and too risky! Feb and March / April from now on, just be sure that the late one is high up e.g. Monterosa.

been good solid snow all year right from the 5th dec when i came out but there have only been really 4 decent powder days which is disappointing compared to last season which had about 20!
have had 2 periods of 3weeks with no fresh snow but the way Bormio is nothing melted from before and luckily it was cold enough to keep it decent.
one thing that has been a constant annoyance is the "snow reports" weekly predicting snow for the weekend and it never arriving-we reckon its a ploy to get the city folks up to the mountains
although apparently predicted 60cm in the next 5 days which would be good......

There are forecasts for a decent dump, the day before I leave the resort on Sat :roll: However, it's also due to be windy, so I expect it might be a tad inclement :mrgreen:
Of course, the new snow will be sitting on top of wet unstable snow with a sun warmed ground underneath it :shock:

I'm in Grimentz, where it's still possible to ski back to the apt, though the snow is a wee bit heavy in the afternoon!
