help please - need ideas for my next holiday

Ok so I casually mentioned to hubby that I am looking at next years holiday and I dont know if he was in a good mood, but he just said are you? rather than no way, so I am taking that as a green light  lol

So far I have been to the following

Soll, Austria twice (20 years ago)
Niederau, Austria 2009
Valmorel, France 2010

What we are looking for is somewhere that has quite a few runs (the size of Valmorel was ideal, wouldn't really want something smaller but would go somewhere bigger. We have had 2 weeks of skiing and are confident on blue runs although would try the reds in Austria but not France. (we could all ski red 19 in Niederau).

We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids), although my oldest will be 12 and a lot of tour operators class children under 11 and over that they are classed as an adult.

We are looking for something quite cruisy. We would be looking at going the first week in March (taking the kids out of school again) We have a budget of about GBP500 each.

We would not like to go in a catered chalet but we would be willing to go half board in a hotel which offered a buffet (as we are such fussy eaters). We also would not want to go anywhere that you have to get a ski bus to the slopes.

I have been to Soll in the past and really like the ski welt (from what I can remember) but the thing I didnt like was that it was so far from the slopes. I would like to go back there and quite fancy either Ellmau or Westendorf. I have also fancied going to Saalbach.

Ideally I would like tree lined skiing. I dont mind the odd bit out of the tree line, but it would be nice to be able to ski psat the trees.

I know there are hundreds of ski resorts out there so I am open to suggestion. I havent really looked at many piste maps in Italy or Swizerland but willing to try anything.

thanks in advance.
How about St Gervais, linked to Megeve? Big area, lots of tree lined cruisey intermediate skiing. Chance for a day out in Combloux, Les Contamines, Les Houches or Chamonix. Around an hour 30 from Geneva +- 15 mins. Affordable with self catering, some is ski in/out depending on snow cover and capability. Hotels in Megeve can be pretty posh with prices to match, there is 1 hotel with easy walk of the Bettex gondola in St Gervais AFAICR.

Re:help please - need ideas for my next holiday

Just came back from a week in Saalbach had a great time.
Good points
Had three days of lessons (a first) and got shown where the great runs were.
Did my first black with moguls so well chuffed.
Great apres ski Spitz bar my favourite.
Great lift system loads of new lifts.
Loads of long runs and no q's
A 7k blue that we were the first people to ski down one morning after 3" of fresh snow what a feeling
Great mountain food for lunches.
Bad points
Snow was quite porridgey in the afternoons as was quite warm tho this improved for the last 4 days as we had snow.
Cost of food and drink was quite high. 3.50 for small bottle of beer 4.50 f0r a hot choc between 10 -14 for lunch 8.50for a bacardi and coke, after the prices in italy it was quite an increase glad we were half board tho
Cost of ski equipment was really expensive so dont buy it there.
Our hotel club Reigler was a bit dated but the food was good and plenty of it.
Involved a walk to the main lift(schattberg express) but for 15 euros we left our boots and ski's in the depot and just picked them up each morning.

all in all a good choice i'd recommend :)
Prices matched yours so maybe i was spoilt in italy last year
tho if the pound keeps falling against the euro at least it will be easier to work out lol

Tree skiing, cruisy runs, plenty of blues, nice wide reds.....I dont know what makes you think SC would not be for you.
Saalbach would be another shout.
Other than that, you ought to try Sauze d'Oulx.
I,m with Tony on that - Sauze d'Oulx is great for cruising the tree lined runs and it is somewhat cheaper than many resorts.
