10 and a half sleeps

watcha :D

I feel like it's been an age... apart from crossing to the dark side amongst other things [], I've been throwing myself into my new role at work and reading mindless jargon until well into the night and haven't had much time to stop by. Still, that's all done and hopefully it's now settling down just in time for me to receive a sim card for my new iphone that's glaring at me and then I can spend all my time buying useless apps

I'm now in overexcited mode but it's tinged massively with apprehension. Can I board more than a short little blue in hertfordshire??? I haven't had time for exercise either but I started again yesterday so, hopefully, I can get my level of fitness almost up to scratch if I do some every day.

So, hope you're all well and have enjoyed some good trips. I've managed to check a couple of reports and it sounds mostly good . Have I missed much?

Hi Caron/Betty,
I hope you have a good time :D

I reckon you're a natural on the snowboard, so you shouldn't have any problems. Where are you going again? I'm afraid I've totally forgotten.

Ally

aahhhh, it's good to be back :D

sorry, forgot to mention that it's Arabba in the Dolomites we're off to.
As it gets closer and you spend more time reading up on different sites there's one word that crops up in every single report - STEEP . Still, tino tells me that steep is better on a board. fingers crossed, eh. [Rose? :?]

Bandit, we're both taking our boots. I know mr-a will be using his for sure as he's decided he wants to ski the sella ronda. I'm going to take each day as it comes...

Caron,
I think taking boots as well is a good idea. It's great than now you can ski and board, so you can choose which you do. I had a look at Arabba on the internet and the Sella Ronda circuit looks really good and Arabba is very well positioned for it.

Don't forget to let us know how you got on, when you're back :D

Ally

Re:10 and a half sleeps

Arabba does look ma cracking place, with the bonus of the Sella Ronda. MFC stayed there last year and Selva this year, and says Selva is the better option. However, Arabba is somewhere I will be going next season hopefully.

Caron, best of luck with the boarding. You know its always just banter with me. I would love to give it a go, but love my skiing so much that I dont want to be a beginner again.

Where you are going is an area of natural beauty, so get plenty of pics for us all, and try to get about the area as much as you can. I hope your boarding enables to get about the area. Dont go getting the skis on and hurting yourself again.

Have a cracking time. I would love to be going there.

Bit general 'the alps' but at higher elevations there is usually plenty. Even low down you can get some nice turns if you are lucky.

The resort is at 1500m and much of the skiing is around 2000m so it should be ok, you will definitely get some skiing in for sure. Its very quiet around there, and the lift system is prehistoric!
I'd welcome a report and some photos when you get back?

I've got the scgb forecast one but I'd love a piste map one if anyone's got any recommendations?

Caron,
How many days are left now? Have you done your packing, and how're the exercises going?

I have to work Good Friday and the Saturday as well, because we've got holidaymakers going out and coming in. I guess probably quite a lot of people have to work Easter week. Let's hope not too many people have to work actually on Easter Sunday.

All the best for your holiday :D

Ally

Re:10 and a half sleeps

Ally: 6 and a half sleeps
it was really exciting seeing a few mates in the pub last night arranging our pre-holiday drink next friday evening. It's gotta be an early one though, we're the first collection at 2:30am

I really haven't had a lot of luck with the exercises. Mine of choice is yoga and my left shoulder is still killing me from the awful drag lift (on a board backwards) at Hemel a few weeks back. Still, I've felt with boarding that it isn't as tiring as skiing and I'm generally quite fit so, hopefully, I may be ok.

Alistair: We've done Obergurgl twice now so may leave it for a while before we may or may not go back. I absolutely love it there but if I don't go anywhere else I may not find somewhere I love even more :D. Absolutely no idea about next season yet, which isn't like me at all!

Hi Caron,
2:30 a.m. is a ridiculously early time to get picked up. I hope you manage to get some sleep somewhere along the way :D

I hope your shoulder recovers soon. I damaged my rotator cuff last March, moving a very large flower pot, and it was months before it was better, although I went to see the osteopath about it and put ice on it. I think it might have been my own fault for continuing to work and lift heavy weights with it. I would say your shoulder needs rest as well. I hope Arabba has lots of suitable chairlifts for you to sit down nice and comfy on.

Ally

Yes I get your point. We have booked up for the white week again in December however, that will be our third visit and as you say there are so many new places to explore. We are tempted to give Lech a visit but are not sure if you can ski there in early December?

Anyway, have a great time. :D

Re:10 and a half sleeps

That ski (board) clock is ticking you lucky thing. Have checked on Lech and Zurs and cannot find a white week option as yet however, as Tony has indicated it is a snow sure destination and when it gets the snow it realy gets the snow! It is alleged that it is a good resort for taking your first stab at powder/off piste because they have areas on the map that are ski routes but not pisted. I will do a bit of research away from the tour operators and see if it can be done.

Enjoy Arraba it looks stunning from Lynn's recent report and a place we would like to visit in the near future. We also liked the look of Serre-Chevalier following Tony's report. Too many resorts and not enough time.

Anyway have a great/safe time and look forward to a report on your return. :D Is there any truth that you are considering hucking the Dolomites

Re:10 and a half sleeps

Lech/Zurs does look like a great destination. Another one on the list. If I am hucking then at least that'll mean I've got confidence

I'm half ready to go. Got to pick my youngest up from school and get down to some serious packing before heading off to the pub at 6:30 for a pre-holiday group drink or two :D

Check out this for a piste map: http://www.arabba.it/index.php?page_id=1066&lang_id=3&season=winter
click on the top two pictures (the village from different directions) zoom in and it feels like you're there. Incredible. Good work

Hope you all have a fab easter
Caron
:-D :-D :-D

Re:10 and a half sleeps

very jealous of those heading away soon, i got back from Mayrhofen a week ago and am still suffering major post snow blues!!

Never mind, can now focus on what is probably going to be one last trip to the scottish mountains next weekend - Cairngorm is even expecting some fresh snow in the next couple of days!!
