Ski Carriage

Out of interest, what did you pay for your ski carriage?

With Crystals going in March who charge GBP30, Neilsons in January charged GBP15.

A pain in the ass is the holiday companies insistence that you pack only skis in your ski bag. With EasyJet, RyanAiir, BA and so on you can pack all your stuff in the ski bag and so have only one piece of luggage to worry about, which is even a greater plus when collecting your luggage at airports where the skis come out in a different place to your cases

Re:Ski Carriage

Both Continental and Air Canada charge $50 each way to Canada.

I don't consider it too bad given I can carry as much as I like in my ski bag and they don't seem to weigh it.

This time around I'm hoping to put everything in the one bag since I'm only going for 12 days. Just hope they don't insist on weighing it!

Re:Ski Carriage

Four weeks ago Easyjet weighed our ski bags (from Grenoble to Gatwick). The man in front of us had to take absolutely everything out of his ski bag (except his skis of course)because it weighed over the limit. Given that we had two sets of skis in our one bag we were very worried. So when my oh put our bag on the machine he held it up a bit with his foot and our bag showed a weight of much less than it did on the way out...Phew! Much to our suprise we got away with it.

Two weeks ago with Monarch we decided at the last minute to pay for one bag (still with two sets of skis). They weighed the bag but were not in the slightest bit bothered how much it weighed. In fact they didn't even ask us for anything other than our passports and how many bags we had so we probably didn't need to pay for the ski carraige at all.

I think it seems to be the luck of the draw on the day!

Although I have paid for two sets of skis, I was thinking about taking a double ski bag , it will just have skis in, I think I'd better check with Easyjet as I would hate to have to bring down another air carrier
if they attempt to charge excess luggage

Re:Ski Carriage
Just used Easy Jet to transport two sets of skis and poles in one double bag. Padded out with salopettes and socks.

EasyJet only charged GBP18 for the bag, and allowed 20kg. I was well within this - bout 17kg.

At check-in (both outward and return) they were not the least bit interested what was in the bag (ie one set of skis or two?). As long as you are within weight you are okay. :D :D :D
