Ski hire options

Me again!

Decided not to buy any skis in the end, so I need to hire some now.

Obviously it's cheaper to hire online before I go, but prices seem to vary from shop to shop.

I've found the following:

Skiset (as advertised on here)
Snowbrainer (seems the cheapest and same hire shops used as Skiset)
Sport 2000 (seems a reasonable price, but only 1 shop)
Intersport (expensive)

Can anyone recommend any of the above? Has anyone used Snowbrainer before?

Many thanks,

Gadgetgirl x

Very much depends on where you are going to.
I have used skiset in the past and got unlucky with the shop they used, whereas I have never had a problem with Sport 2000.
Price them all up for your resort and make a decision.

I turned 30 and decided to take a luxury ski trip staying in a 4* chalet, rather than my usual more budget version!

I see it more as money saved on skis means money to spend on gadgets or a new hat or something!

I think I'm swaying towards the ski2000, as I'm sure they're the ones I used about 7 years ago when staying at Courchevel 1650. (I was a poor student then, so couldn't afford 1850...)
Re:Ski hire options

Good thinking. Chalets are the way forward for me too, no eating costs and we tend not to spend as much on apres now either.

As for ski hire, I'd just go with whoever gives you the best discount and who has the nearest shop to your chalet.

Enjoy.

Re:Ski hire options

I used snowbrainer last week. The hire shop said that they preferred skiset but that's probably because skiset were dearer and the hire shop got a bigger cut. Cynical? Me?

Anyway, saved over GBP30 using snowbrainer, booked the 'bronze' skis and boots, turned up in the hire shop and they got me to complete a form. Came out with 'silver' skis & boots.

Re:Ski hire options

For future reference: The "Snow 'n' Rail" offer from Swiss rail (see for example: http://railaway.rail.ch/english/snow-n-rail/valais/nendaz) gives you a discount on the rail connection from the airport, a discount on a 1 or 2 day lift pass and a 15 per cent discount on ski hire from Intersport.

For some reason the above offer is not written in English on the website. You can buy the ticket at the rail station in Geneva airport on arrival.

Details of the discount on ski rentals are in English: http://www.railaway.rail.ch/english/snow-n-rail/ski-rental/on-the-slopes-with-intersport-rent/

Re:Ski hire options

Used Skiset a couple of years ago in Tignes and they were a nightmare. No helmets for the children to hire - we had to buy some from a different shop ! We had pre-booked the top range of skis for two of our group and they only had the mid range left. Shop were completely unhelpful - and pretty rude. We did (eventually) get a refund of the helmet hire costs when we got home, but it took several email exchanges to get there. Never again.

Thanks everyone!

I've gone with skiset, so hopefully they'll give us nice equipment! My French is pretty good, so I will do my best to talk them into an upgrade for free.
