Skis

Hi all. I have just done all the ligaments in my knee and am hoping to return next season!
I own a pair of Xwing 170's and I'm pondering what ski type may be a little gentler for my return to skiing! I am planning on staying on-piste next season!
Anyone got any suggestions?

Huard.

Re:Skis

I don't really know anything but I'd go for something a little shorter and a bit more forgiving. Maybe a 162 and a ski lower down the range.

OTOH, if you get in to your rehab there is no reason you can't come back as strong as ever and get back on the Tornado's.

Thanks. I think the Tornado's may be a little stiff but who knows!!
Most people I've talked to seem to think going shorter and softer may be better.
I have plenty of time on my hands to do some research!

Re:Skis

'All ligaments', I'd imagine staying narrow could be good for you too (especially if you are just staying on piste). Unnecessarily fat skis will just add more strain.

That's what I was thinking reading this. If it were me, I would go for narrow, soft, and short to start with, and just see how it goes.

Anyone come across these bindings yet (embedding is disabled, so you have to double click on the embed)

Trencher

Re:Skis

I had my anterior cruciate ligament replaced in June 08 and went skiing twice in Jan & Mar 09 absolutely fine.

I didn't feel a single twinge from my knee at all on either week, despite having since found out that the surgery was performed badly and isn't giving me the support I need.

I am a blader though so obviously have a lot less snow to disperse, but on my second week I was in the snow park jumping, and still had no problems.

I spent GBP70 on a sports knee brace that stopped my knee hyper-extending (going past fully straight) and limited side to side movement of the joint. The elasticated material it was made up of also gave me extra strength in the joint.

I would advise lots of gym work to strengthen the joint and don't go skiing within 6 months of surgery as apparently this is how long the graft takes to bond permanently with the bone.

I know you've done more damage than I did but hopefully this'll show that it isn't too hard to come back from. Good luck with the surgery!

[MaccA]

Trencher, I assume you use EpicSki in some capacity? I'd run a search there. Remember a thread on them.
