RUST!!

Okay.. It isn't as bad as it sounds, but still.... I found rust on my skis!! :(
Small-ish dots of rust down the edges.. only a bit of it though.. will a simple service for edge sharpening fix this up?
I'm rather upset.. they were my first brand new skis and have done me well for 2 years now..

P.S - 10 sleeps until Meribel :D

EDIT - I have only had the skis 2 years, my bad!

But still..
I've only ever had them serviced once.. and that was before last years holiday to Alpe D'Huez..
I was gonna put them in for a service.. get them waxed etc - just wondering if the rust will disappear with it :(

At the end of your holiday dry your skis and run a block of wax around your edges, it will protect your edges from the damp

Re:RUST!!

Rust can appear overnight if the edges remain wet. This normally happens if the temp where the skis are stored is not warm enough to dry up any water on the skis, or not cold enough to keep the water frozen. Leaving skis in the car overnight will do this. This type of rust is just on the surface, and will literally rub off on the first run of the day.

Skis left longer while damp will allow the rust to starting eating in to the edge a bit. All you can do is tune the skis. The edge bevel is not a problem, just file and polish it normally. If the base bevel needs a lot of filing to remove the rust, the bevel, while still a still at whatever angle it is, will be wider, which might affect the feel of the skis.

Unless you are looking for ultimate performance, I wouldn't worry about a little rust pitting on the edges, so long as they are sharp. The only problem would be that they would be more prone to rusting in the future.

Leaving skis in ski bags after use is not a good idea, unless you are sure the skis have totally dried out. Water likes to hang around in bindings and riser plates.

Trencher
