What would you do?

Got back from Les Menuires on Saturday and had a great time. Unfortunatley my better half twisted her ankle and was in to much pain to ski for the last 4 days. We had 3 teenagers out sking with us so we agreed that i would go skiing with them :D as it would be irresponsable of us to leave them in the 3 Vallees to there own devices, anything could of happened. If honest weve always said that if 1 gets hurt the other cannot spoil there holibobs by sitting in and not skiing.

So we had a small dvd with us and she watched them through the day.

Do you take anything with you just incase you get injured? If so what?

Re:What would you do?

that sounds awul mfc. what bad luck for your other half. I think that is a good pact that you couldnt all have a miserable holiday. I hope you can claim on the insurance and maybe get another hol in before the season ends with the compen.

I have to be honest though, on my checklist of things to pack for a skiing holiday I do not have a slot for "things to keep me occupied in case i am hurt" lol but knowing me (my hubby calls me Dr Doom!) I maybe should add that to the list.

Hi,

MMMmmmmm after doing my knee in the other year i found strapping cold bottles to my knee with a tea towel worked pretty well, mind you as the bottles got warm they had to be replaced....hic!

But it made do until i was able to get home and see a doc.

jon.

Re:What would you do?

Sorry to hear about the ankle problem but I'm glad you had a good time despite that.

I take a supply of ibuprofen, but that's really for any general aches and pains. My hubby broke his collar bone a couple of years ago and spent three days watching TV and reading, he was also able to struggle to the local bars! I 'had' to spend the rest of the week skiing with three 19 year old lads from Bristol

Re:What would you do?

I have my supply of French books, so I suppose if I had an accident that meant I wasn't able to ski I could spend the week studying them. So far, the only serious accident I have had was on the dry slope before I left, and I was still able to walk (although not ski) so it wasn't too bad.

I also carry a whole supply of first aid stuff that I find useful on ski holidays - like voltarol gel etc.

Ally

Re:What would you do?

Two years ago I hurt my hamstrings going down a steep red I was not able to do on 2nd day. 3rd day was great and caused me no problem but that was the last day I skiied as was too painful and I was scared I could do some real damage. Took about 2 weeks to sort itself out when I got home, but I remember feeling very unhappy that I wasn't able to ski- admiring the scenery is good- but not the same!

This is what I would've done after my accident on day one in Les Arcs but I had to be up at 7am every day so the nurse could give me two very painful jabs in the derrier . I then had to get the family ready to go off to their lessons and then I'd come back and sleep, sulk, watch the skiing on Eurosport, read and listen to my ipod until it was a reasonable enough time of day for me to sample the local grape flavoured drink and drown my sorrows . This I would do until 5pm when I had to go back for more jabs. What a holiday

Glad she's better mfc. Good luck with the knee, let us know how you get on.

Re:What would you do?

Bad luck for your fiance MFC - I will be taking lots of books, DVD's, one of the apartments we are renting has Sky TV and my laptop - just in case my foot does not heal or is too bloody painful. It is frustrating being injured - I have had a few similar convo's with Mr PSC these last two weeks. My view is that I would rather be bored on holiday in the beautiful French Alps than sat at home. I also intend to make my way either by foot or ski to the Roc de Trois Marches cable up to Chalet des Neiges to have lunch with my party! Hopefully it will be sunny again by then.

Where did you stay? Have you booked your Sailing holiday/honeymoon yet?

Unfortunately not booked anything for the honeymoon. The nearest thing to sailing i think will be the "Great North Swim " in Lake Windermere which were doing.

We stayed in Les Menuires, Aconit Apts which were excellent. They have just had a refurb so everthing was bob on. The back door of Apts went straight onto a blue piste which went down to the Doron, Masse & Reberty lifts.

As for my knee I went down a pot hole like thing on piste . I carried on but my ski had other ideas and twisted my knee on the 1st day. Still had agreat time, as a matter of fact I bloody loved it :D but have to act sad infront of my better half

I have NEVER thought about taking something 'just in case' - never crossed my mind. Now I'm worried, I'm going to have to pack more things.

I usually take some reading material anyway so suppose that would have to do, god forbid.
