Ski Amade Area - some advice please.

Ok, so going to Radstadt in 3 weeks. (I won a catered chalet week there) :D It looks like a gorgeous chalet, but Radstadt itself, looks to be fairly limited for skiing. Having never been in that area before, I have no clue really on the lie of the land or on how easy it will be getting to some of the bigger skiing areas. I know there is a shuttle bus which will take us to Filzmoos, but from there, will we be able to access good Intermediate slopes, or will we need to travel a bit further afield?..............and if so, is there and back going to be achievable on a daily basis. Don't want to get stuck on the wrong side of a mountain like last year, with no way back!! The people who own the chalet have been really helpful and I know they will be able to give us lots of advice when we get there ( I don't want to keep asking lots of questions by email) So thought I'd try to find out from some of you guys who will have been there, on the best places to go and how to get there.

Thanks for that Scarlet Fez - I have read a fair bit about it being a vast area, I'm just not sure how accessible it all is from where we are staying. I got stuck in Vallandry last season when we were staying in Les Arcs 2000................and just want to avoid something like that happening again )

Haha would this be the holiday from another forum!? :P I was in that area in april 08, stayed in wagrain on a school trip! I only got to ski flachau and wagrain, but those are definitely worth getting to, also get to zauchensee its meant to be the best area in the salzburger sportwelt! Tis also the resort that they hold a womens downhill race in! Eat Tiroler Grostl because it's good! :D

I'm remember there being a very good trip report on the snowheads forum from a member who had been to the area, may be worth trying to find it to have a read!?

we have stayed in radstadt before and drove round to flachau and wagrain. we are only just back from wagrain and we are staying in flachau in feb.

we love going there as the mountains are brill, even if you are good at skiing, the slopes are good enough for all.

Can certainly recommend Schladming if you can get there. Have just been skiing with a couple who were singing the praises of Zauchensee.

Re:Ski Amade Area - some advice please.

Thanks for the replies. Thing is, I won't have a car, although there is still the option to hire one if I felt it was really necessary. From what I can gather though Zauchensee is only a 10min bus ride from Altenmarkt, so if that is the case, it should be fine as there appears to be a decent amount of intermediate skiing to be done in that area. On the map, Flachau, doesn't look too far away either, so that will be another one to try out.

I think there's a bus link between all the resorts! Flachau is definitely worth getting to, and skiing over to wagrain! I love the area, its fantastic!

Re:Ski Amade Area - some advice please.

Plenty of nice skiing around. Best is Zauchensee which is only a short bus ride away. Absolutely brilliant, one of the best 40km of pistes I have been to. You can ski from Radstadt to Altenmarkt and then a bus to Zauchensee. From there you can alsko ski to Flachauwinkl. Small but again fabulous with nice restaurants and snow parks.
Flachau is also good, as is Wagrain further down. Lots of long cruising pistes. There is another bus from Radstadt to Flachau.
On the other side of Radstadt you have over 100km of pistes in Schladming area.
Obertauern is higher and is very snow sure with some amazing apres ski. But is not on Ski Amade lift pass. You wil have to buy Salzburgerland ski pass which I believe might be 20-30 Euros more. I think if you have plenty of time it is well worth it.
All above areas are close to Radstadt with public transport available.

Re:Ski Amade Area - some advice please.

I'm off to Schladming in a few weeks' time - is the Ski Amade ski pass the only one available, or can you get one that just serves the immediate Schladming/Haus/Rohrmoos area? We've got a mixed group going and, for some of them, a massive area lift pass would be a bit of a waste of money, as they will not stray far from main area.

Can only seem to find reference to the Ski Amade lift pass on various websites and it's expensive. Covers a massive area, but not cheap! Anyone help please?

Thanks SF, but that's the web page I found and all I can find is the area pass (218 euros for 7 days for an adult). I was looking for a link to the local area passes, if there are such things.
