Its a knee injury but the doctor doesnt know what is exactly wrong. So physio first, then a knee specialist. As a 17 year old unemployed student i cant really afford a sports physio when I can get it free on the NHS. I had a hamstring injury 6 months ago and the NHS are really good with physio. And yes im keeping positive. Thanks

Just last weekend my back "went". I could barely get out off bed or off a chair (strained scraping ice and snow at home). 4 emergency sessions with a physio and now I am just about back to normal, yippee as I'm off skiing this Sunday. :D

Good luck, I hope you have a similar recovery.

Good luck mate. (But if you will play soccer, well.....) But don't give up on you skiing if you can help it.

In 2005, I was taken ill two weeks before a fortnight's trip to Fernie in Canada. I lost a lot of blood, had a quickfire operation and when I came round my first question to the surgeon was am I ok to fly and to ski? She laughed and said: no problem.

Result: great holiday as I thought it might be my last. Happily didn't turn out that way....

I was just making a challenge. Dont know what happened. But it wasnt that painful at the time. I went for a run over christmas and had to turn back because it was too painful. So i doubt skiing will be anyless painful. Thanks

If you can afford to see a physio search online for a diagnosis, rehab exercises and a decent brace. I injured my medial ligaments about 6 weeks ago and with a bit of decent rehab i am good to go skiing now (i hope)

If you're able to get to your hospital fairly easily & at short notice, you could contact the physio department & ask for a cancellation. Lots of people are cancelling appointments at the moment because of the snow.

can you sleep with your legs straight or do you need to angle them out to the side?
if you're comfortable with them straight then it's not ligaments.
fingers crossed for you.

Re:4 weeks to go! And i go get injured, FOOL!

Try looking at www.physioroom.com, I have used this site loads to sort myself out with injuries mainly from football.

If you managed to finish the game and even the fact that you felt ok to go for a run over Xmas would appear to me it is not ligaments as you would know that and you wouldn't even attaempted the run.

Get yourself a good quality neoprene support and wear during the day, it can become a bit iritating and hot but the heat get more blood to the area and I have found it speeds up the repair process.

The knee shouldn't be unstable, but the pain can be annoying and generally you won't do any further damage just prolong the full heeling if you ski on it, so take plenty of Ibuprofen with you. 4 weeks should get you right anyway.

Best of Luck!

Just thought I would update you on this situation. (If your interested)

Basically going skiing on Saturday, at the moment the knees are fine. I have played 3 fotball games and been on plenty of runs and managed to get an hour on the bike at the gym, should be fine now. I have booked a physio session for the monday after I get back, just incase I bugger my knees whilst skiing. Thanks for all the advice, much appreciated.

Longy

different injury for me, sustained playing football, anyway for a long time i'd been thinking i need to do yoga as used to be real flexible and now at 35 not so bendy. been going for 6 months now and not felt so good in ages, loads of good leg exercises in there for skiers and boarders. builds good strength and better stretching helps avoid injury in the first place. plus i'm one of only 2 guys at my session. highly recommended

Re:4 weeks to go! And i go get injured, FOOL!

Im no doctor but i have certainly had my fair share of sports injuries... So what i advise is keep moving on it. the worst thing you can do is sit and do nothing, this is when it becomes stiff and doesnt heel properly. Try and continue to do very moderate light exercise, cycling on a exercise bike but on the easiest setting dont push it. simple walks on flat routes. Ensure you have heat and cold packs to hand alternating 5 min sessions with each for about 40 mins each night, this helps the blood circulation which speeds up the healing process.

Clearly if doing any of the above is too painful then seek immediate professional advice, you say your a student and cant afford it but if you can try pay for private until the nhs freebie kicks in then this could and probably will make such a difference.

done the same myself today. i do alot of cycling but not done much over the last few weeks. decided to go for a spin this morning and hit a patch of ice on a downhill bend and came off. hit the deck and slid down the road . my shoulder really hurts and i thought it was broken at first. flying out to mayrhofen on sat so ive got a week to get it right.

Re:4 weeks to go! And i go get injured, FOOL!

I got an email saying - "Anyone up for football this week?"

To which i replied " Nope, got skiing in 3 weeks and not really up for getting injured- seeing as 3 years ago i sprained my ankle the week before skiing by playing 5 a side footy!!"

To which i am guessing he would rather have not asked.... :P
