Mark Warner Holidays, are they worth it?

Looking for reports from any of the MW ski hotels (France or Austria), they look excellent & I could easily be tempted by some of the deals currently on offer. Are there any in particular you would recommend especially for children.

Many thanks

Finn

Re:Mark Warner Holidays, are they worth it?

Hi Finn,

I had the pleasure of staying at a Mark Warner Hotel in Tignes about 4 years ago. I tagged on to a party of friends who were all taking children and got a really good deal last minute including single supplement, otherwise I could not have afforded it.

I stayed at the Chalethotel Aiguille Percee, and I could not speak highly enough of it.

Where to start, the staff were all excellent. From the babysitters to the management. We had absolutely no issues with leaving the children with the nannies, and the children ranged from 3 1/2 to 7 years old. They were completely cared for with various activities depending on their age and desires. The older children attended Ski school and were monitored on the nursery slopes in the afternoon. The creche in the hotel was excellent.

Next, the food. I could not fault the food, we had planned to eat out a few times, but did not bother in the end as the hotel food was so good. They also supplied afternoon hot drinks and cakes when you finished skiing.

The rooms were of a good size (at least the ones we had) and kept pretty clean.

Generally the hotel was very clean, and it had a good layout. It is very close to the main Gondola in Le Lac and convenient to the local bars.

If you have children, I would not hesitate in recommending it. I would go back myself, the only thing to prevent that is the cost of a Mark Warner holiday. But you get what you pay for in this case, and you are paying to have the ability to leave your children in good hands and enjoy yourself skiing.

Hope that helps.

FQ

Re:Mark Warner Holidays, are they worth it?

I'd never pay their brochure/web prices, but if its an offer price, I have heard nothing but good reports. I couldnt normally afford one of their packages, but if you can get a serious amount off, I would be very tempted to give it a go.

I agree, if you can get a good deal I'd jump at it.
I've never done any of their winter holidays but have done quite a few summer ones and they are one of the better companies.
I reckon the standard would be pretty similar across the board.

Hi Finn, I fully agree with FQ, I also stayed at the aguile percee on the last week of the season two years ago in tignes and had a super time. I must concur that the childcar was second to none and the food was as good as any top restaurant.

I also agree that I had a deal because of the time of year.

Worth a trip most definately!

TP

Finn, have done MW in L2A for the last 3 years and find it hard to contemplate using anyone else. Heading off this Sunday again.

As others have said, their brochure prices are high but I have never paid more than GBP1900 for two adults and two children (exc kids club, ski school etc)
We have always found the service, food kids entertainment to be fantastic and the ski hosting is really good particularly if you are new to the resort.

NB We have a friend who has booked to join us on Sunday paying GBP555.......really good value I think

Attention Snowplough - severe weather warning in France. Grenoble is closed in case thats where you are heading. I'd be checking with your airline or tour op if I were you.

Re:Mark Warner Holidays, are they worth it?

Mark Warner are probably the best of the 'major' companies that I've been with, but Inghams came close as well.
Both, of course, have higher brochure prices than the likes of Crystal, First Choice etc, but you get what you pay for.

I went to St Anton with MW - and it was the little things that added up to quality. I vividly remember arriving at Zurich early - fully expecting to have to wait for the Manchester, Bristol and Cardiff flights as per most operators. But MW effectively provided a private transfer as soon as we got through baggage etc and we were on the way.

Brilliant chalet, excellent food, staff good and liberal with the interpretation of free grog with dinner.

Thanks for the reports, all of them very positive. Going to try MW especially now that I know the children are well catered for.

Finn
