10 year old girl hurt in fall from ski lift

A 10 year old girl from Ireland fell 10m from a lift in Westendorf. It appears that the safety bar was not in place. Thankfully, she is ok. THe reaction of the German couple who were on the lift at the time is interesting to say the least!

Our friends saw something similar happen in St Martin last year, the girl in questions skis had come off so whether they had got caught I don't know, a large crowd formed underneath the ski lift as it was 30 - 40 metres above the slope and encouraged the people holding her to drop her (the lift had been stopped) which they did and she was caught without injury at all :D

He got it all on video but I don't think he has put it out there yet - perhaps he has sent it to YBF.

I've never had a fall from a lift (thank you <insert deity of choice here>) but came close last year in Killington:

The Yanks will NOT pull the safety bar down on a chair - they're more scared of getting stuck than falling out!

We took to only getting on chairs with Brits - especially the weird ones that went round corners and shook like crazy whilst doing it (weird chairs that is, not weird Brits - we didnt have a choice as they were members of our party :-)

A lot of people ride chairs with the bar up in the US, but I've never heard of anyone complaining when someone on the chair wants the bar down.

Strangely enough, that was exactly what I thought! I assumed they were high profile people who couldn't afford the scandal, and disappeared before anyone could get their names or realise who they were. We must both have very suspicious minds :D

I'm really glad the girl was okay though - that was an awful fall and must have been horribly frightening for her.

I had a horrible experience in Val Thorens. The ski school were putting little people on each chair and the child next to me was "tiny". She didn't speak any English and when we got to the top, there was no-one standing to help her off the chair. So I took her hand, but she gave me the shock of my life when she jumped, before we got to the right area. She then slipped under the chair and all I was left with in my hand was a small glove. I nearly had a heart attack. Thankfully there was netting and that is where she ended up. I was really upset and shaking like a leaf. Not a pleasant experience at all.

And agree...................having an affair and maybe it was him that was the hottie!

I woudn't have thought so. Our society is generally still pretty homo-sensitive, if not actually homo-phobic at times, and I wouldn't think the press would have described them as a couple unless they were male and female or they had some evidence to back up the assumption that they were a gay couple.

With my holidaymakers I have reached the point now where I never attempt to label their relationships at all - I am very careful to avoid doing so - because these days one just never knows and it is very easy to cause offence. If my husband asks who we've got I just say how many adults/kids/males/females we have and leave it at that.

Most people I know have gay friends including me, live and let live I say 8)
