I've confessed to my husband.... how do I tell my friends?

..... I'm a J2SKI addict. We are a group of 7 adult and 8 children going to Alpe d'Huez on Sun 10th Jan. I hope to meet a few other J2ski'ers whilst there. I've told my husband this, he is happy with this and will accompany me. But how do I tell my friends we are off to a pub to meet some strangers we met on the internet? They are either going to laugh at me or just quietly think I'm mad. Should Mr HB and I sneak down the pub on our own or is there a way of explaining to friends I spent the whole summer checking for snow flakes that were not going to arrive until autumn?

Re:I've confessed to my husband.... how do I tell my friends?

I met Ellistine in Mayrhofen, an arranged meet for a beer. It was my first ever "internet meet" and I have to say I was hoping he would not turn out to be some kind of nerd or wiredo.....but I also thought he may be having the same thoughts about meeting me!
We went to meet them, and had a good laugh for the rest of that week, and have subsequently even been to St Anton with them for a week, and he and his Mrs are now classed as good friends of ours.

I admit it does sound a little odd telling your friends, and Mrs H was particularly dubious about coming along. At the end of the day, if you meet for a beer, its an opportunity to share skiing experiences with a few more friendly and interested people. If your friends dont fancy meeting up, thats fine, their loss

As for meeting up, I would suggest a central bar straight off the slopes would be ideal, any day. Dont forget Andy Hull and his gang might be keen too!!! Stewart Dowling is your man to speak to about meeting up, he is the party animal of the group. Some of our group might not be too keen as they view internet forums "suspiciously" too but if it involves having a couple of beers, I am sure they'd come along. 4.30 - 5pm somewhere would probably be ideal. I believe SnowBandit is heading out there just before us so she might be able to find a happy hour bar right off the slopes.

Re:I've confessed to my husband.... how do I tell my friends?

Well I will confess to meeting my Hubby on the internet. Something that if a friend or daughter of mine did I would not be best pleased. But 10 years down the line turns out to be the best thing I ever did. I did take all the safety things to heart, meet in mutual, public space, informed people where I was etc.

I certainly am, I will be arriving on the 7th and will do that no problem, if you pm me your phone numbers I will send you a text with bar name and location. I will be leaving on the 11th so we can only meet for beers on either the 9th or 10th, I guess the 10th will be best for those of you arriving on the 9th.

I have only four days now to rest my legs after my week in LM that finished yesterday!

Re:I've confessed to my husband.... how do I tell my friends?

It wouldn't bother me telling any one about meeting people off the internet ..I joined an online gaming squad with people from all over world 8 years ago and every year since then we all meet up in the summer and have a 4 day bbq in a field up at my mums house in the middle of nowhere..last year there was 40 of us 2 from OZ 2 from Norway and 4 from Belfast and the rest from all over the UK . Its become a little break in the year that we all look forward to. Hopefully in the near future my girlfriend and I are off to Norway to visit my friends for a little bit of snowboarding woohoo

Re:I've confessed to my husband.... how do I tell my friends?

Have been fortunate to meet a lot of J2skiers, and all good value folk. Introduced my OH to them when she was there at the same time, it actually eased her view of my writing on J2.

I am a bit charry about what I tell my ski buddies, they are mostly hot shots, and don't take prisoners!

What ever I tell my friends, or not - I'm looking forward to meeting up with some other J2skiers. Everyone on the site seems friendly and to meet others with tips and advice on skiing and the area can only be a good thing. See you all next week. :D

Oh no! Most people had terrible starts to their holidays, maybe they simply weren't able to get there. Or perhaps you were all too shy to ask strangers if they were J2Skiers!

I was half way down the Sarenne and got talking to a couple about the weather and flights, I mentioned having to miss an interview because of cancelled flights and he asked me if I was snowbndit on j2ski. Small world, I felt famous for a moment!

The whole point of our short break was to ski with Tonyh and his crew, that never happened either, due to the catalogue of delays and cancellations.

Chin up we all ended up having some fantastic skiing days! :D

I'll name no names on who stood me up. But there was only one other group of people in the bar and I went and asked them are you "..." or "...".

I know everyone had a hard time so I'll let them off. If we do manage it another time I'll remind them they owe me one as we waited 45 mins for them (that's a few beers for my husband that he could have been getting free in the hotel!)

Hi Claire. Sorry we didnt get to meet up, however as far as I am aware no arrangements were actually made. I know you and Stewart exchanged texts whilst we were in ADH, but to be honest we had such a bad start to things, and also we were in such a good spot in our chalet that we didnt bother going out after skiing.
A free beer in the hot tub and a sauna before free wine with dinner wins every time.
Again, apologies if we were supposed to have met.
