nerves

I've been over-excited for months about our trip.
Now we're packed and ready to leave in the morning the only sensation I'm feeling is nerves. I know that once I get off the first lift and slide I'll be fine but I was wondering if I'm alone?

Re:nerves

Caron,
I get nervous about pretty much everything, from I'm going to forget my passport to the car's going to break down and I'm going to miss the train .

But I'm not actually very nervous about the ski-ing bit - it's more about worrying that I'm not going to be able to find the instructor, or that my lift pass isn't going to work.

Have a good holiday Caron-a :D :D

Ally

Re:nerves

I rarely get nervous, although I still get excited. Having said that, I have been researching some of the more challenging runs in the Arlberg, and found that after going through some of the detail, I was just about hyper ventilating! I searched for a run that Bandit had mentioned, and then found Schindler. My frau has already said "NO". We will see.

Skiing is about risk, but also about one's ability to measure or assess the risk, and then make a decision. If I think a run is too icy & steep, I am happy to go somewhere else.

Caron, having seen how you overcame your fears, in going from beginner slope to conquering Tennladen, I think you have a great attitude to skiing. Be nervous, but also, be excited!

Have a great week in Obergurgl.

Re:nerves

I get very nervous.

I lost my sister during my second skiing holiday

It was in 1996. She was only 19 and I was 15. She didn't die while skiing though. Few days into our holiday her boyfriend arrived and one day they decided to walk in to the mountains, unprepared. No proper shoes or clothes, nothing.
They both fell from the ridge.

He had only a few scratches and a broken rib but she fell with her head facing downwards and broken her neck. Apparently he felt first and than... we don't know. Did she tried to help him and fell... Nobody knows what really happened.

A week before we went on the holiday I had this bad feeling that something bad is going to happen. I didn't want to go. We were going by coach and on our way we past this very bad car accident. That made my feeling even worse. And than it happened to me. My sister died.
Before I always thought "bad things always happen to somebody else not to me"

Now I am always scared while going on holiday. I hate this feeling :(
Neneziss,
That must have been truly terrible, losing your sister on holiday when you were both so young. And it must have been awful for your parents as well. I'm not at all surprised you feel nervous going on holiday now.

Ally

Dave, that run off Schindler is magnificent, especially in fresh snow, if you're wife does not want to do it, please don't miss the opportunity to do it anyway and leave her to get the coffees in )

Caron - I dont get nervous at all when I am skiing. However, that first morning off the first lift I do get this voice in my head that says "Can I still do this?"

You have to be able to separate the emotions of fear and excitement as well as the rush of adrenalin that skiing always brings us.

Have a great time, both of you.
