Flying out this weekend?

The very best of luck to those of you flying out for your skiing holidays this weekend. Its chaos as usual on the UKs roads and Luton and Gatwick were shut this morning with many flights being suspended, diverted or cancelled. I am sure you will all keep an eye on the TV and weather forecasts, but more snow is forecast during the day and also overnight further north.

Please please please....allow plenty of time to get to the airport, and take plenty of provisions with you in case of delays as it is HIGHLY likely that the knock on effect from today will be, as usual for this pathetic country we live in, massive.

I understand Easyjet have cancelled all flights from LGW until at least 11am this morning, so there are going to be a lot of angry people at the airports, especially Luton where nothing is going in or out at present, and people will be looking to get onto other flights later on.

As for getting to the airports, roads around London are in a bad way. Main routes like the M25 seem to be busy but ok, but many A roads and all B roads are tricky at best and in some cases closed. The A1 in Bedfordshire has now closed so getting to Luton, Heathrow or Gatwick from north of there means trying different routes which will add to congestion. What it will be like in the morning is anyones guess, we will have to see what the night brings.

I am heading for LHR early tomorrow to pick up my son flying in from the US, so we are expecting a difficult journey and some waiting around.

But for those of you going away tomorrow, I hope you have as good and safe a journey as possible, and a fantastic Xmas skiing.

Be safe.

Re:Flying out this weekend?

Thanks Tony_H, it's ironic that people will be late getting to their ski resorts because of snow here. We will be checking in at East Midlands at 5.00am on Monday morning for the Geneva flight - so any chance of a snowflake & we'll be going down on Sunday afternoon & camping at the airport :( Thank goodness we don't have to go anywhere near London!
