Good news, however, to describe Eddie Edwards as "the great" is stretching it a bit! (And I have known and like Michael Edwards since the 1970/80s on the Gloucester dry slope - and he is a very friendly, good all-round bloke!)

You can have your opinion, I actually thought the lad had a lot of balls to what he did, there is still a lot of snobbery in sport and the powers that be you could say disliked him

Re:Ski Sunday (again)

He is a great guy, and only those who have stood at the top of a 90m hill and then jumped have the right to give him any stick for his jumping ability.

Does he still hold the British records for ski jumping?

At least Mr Edwards gave it his best and went off the end of the ramp.

Re:Ski Sunday (again)

I stood at the top of Finlands biggest ski jump and looked down. Any-one who can jump off that deserves respect. It was scary, dont know how any-one can do it.

Re:Ski Sunday (again)

Who suggested he didn't have a ton of guts to do what he did? Not me, that's for certain. I meet him occasionally on the train these days as he lives in the same town - and he is never anything but charming and amusing. (By the way, I first interviewed him for a local paper way back when he was an extremely promising slalom racer).

However, I was taking issue with the report's use of the very much overworked 'great'. In ski jumping, Matti Nykanen was a true 'great'; Eddie was a great success, I suppose, in bringing publicity to his sport - and well done to him for that.
