Re:Chondola's

They have similar in Seefeld. I like them as they are heated and its a chance for a warm up. They also have some for non skiers so you can still travel over top of mountain and over the ravines. So I like them

Re:Chondola's

I've not been on one yet but the purpose is to cut the amount of time it takes to get skiers up the mountain. Must be a good thing if that's the case.

As for the health and safety side of things I have no clue but I'm sure they have passed an enormous amount of tests to be up and running in the USA.

I am not technically minded so I don't see why they would reduce the amount of time it takes to transport people up the mountain but apparently it does.

I wonder if people skip the chair and wait for the next gondola because it's warmer? That might defeat the object a bit.

Re:Chondola's

The one in the photo, the only one I have used, had 3 chairs and 1 gondola (and repeat). I found that everyone queued for the chair because it was sunny, and there was no queue at all for the gondola so it saved time for me to choose the cabin.
I guess on a cold day it would be the opposite, and I would probably choose whichever was the shortest queue tbh.

I've only ever been on a heated chairlift once, and i hated it! It was april, so warm as it was and the heated seat was horrible, really was no need for it! In fact there's no need for them at all anyway, not if you've dressed properly!

About seven years ago we were riding on a chair lift on the quite side of Les Deux Alps. As you do we were kicking the fresh snow of the branches of the fir trees below us with the tips of our skis whilst we ascended, well you guessed it, my mates ski tip snagged in the branches below & nearly pulled him through the safety bar, his ski binding only released as his body started to twist around. Believe me he was screaming & I was hanging onto him & there was no way of stopping the chair lift. We were extremely lucky that day & my mate was okay to ski after the shock of the event.
The moral of the story, keep your feet & body parts safely within the chair envelope because that chair isn't stopping for nothing.

Finn

Re:Chondola's

I can remember once, my younger daughter got her shoelace stuck in the escalator, at the bottom of it, when she was quite young, and it was really frightening. For a moment, she couldn't move, and everyone had to sort of jump over her. I was just about to push the red panic button when I managed to get the shoelace out. I suppose I could also have pulled her shoe off, but I didn't think of that at the time because I was too busy panicking .

Getting your ski stuck in a tree when you're on a chair lift would be a bit like that, I suppose, only much worse.

She is accident prone, but not (so far anyway) when she's on skis. Unlike me, she hasn't seriously hurt herself yet.

Ally
