Where am I?

I thought I'd start a game to get us all looking through our photos. Here's how it goes:

The person who gets the answer right has to put up the next photo for everyone to guess...and so on.

Here goes...

That looks a lot like St Anton to me, bottom part of blue 1 (which really should be a red)

Judging by the snow being packed well down at the sides, and that the snow is blown off the rocks, I'm thinking highish, 2500 metre.

Sorry Tony, I haven't kept up with all the thread so the 2500m was just a guess.

The location of the sun is quite a good clue for the slope direction.

Yes, its the Bachas run which runs down to the Monetier sector from the Cucumelle above Villeneuve.
I am going back in March, and really enjoyed the skiing in Serre Che. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

A clear memory of riding that chair a couple of years ago... it stuck in my mind as the pisteurs were training a trio of Alsatians in avalanche rescue on the slope to the left. On our next ride up we saw them coming down - three pisteurs skiing in perfect sync, one behind the other, and each carrying a large hairy dog! :lol:

Even though the top of the Tux is a full 600m lower than the Kleine Matterhorn, it holds it's snow fantastically and early season is far better than Zermatt in terms of steepness and area open, those pics were Oct 5th 2008. Zermatt was good when we were there in May and so is the Tux, generally both about the same area. Once into summer June to September I would do the Tux rather than Zermatt as the infrastructure is better, the last thing you need when limited area is only one way up the top every 15 minutes. The Tux has a series of 3 continuous gondolas from bottom to top, so no queueing, unlike Zermatt which can be painfull.

It isn't any of the 3 Banff resorts, Norquay, Lake Louise or Sunshine. There isn't terrain quite like it anywhere though, quite specific to this hill. I'll leave it open to the board and pick it up in the morning.

Tino-it looks like it has a fairly large area! Might make that the next one to tick off the list in the New Year.

I can't remember you ever talking about ski-ing in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Norway or the U.S. and I know what you think of Bulgaria and Scotland, plus presumably Slovakia, Poland and Romania, so that only leaves Andorra and Italy (I think!) and Italy is much more likely.

Admin's current photo is clearly a glacier. I have been to Tignes and I don't think it's there, but nevertheless I'll guess Tignes because at least I'm sure it does have a glacier.

How about a clue - which tour operator did you book with (assuming you did book with one)? That should limit it a bit. I've got a Thomsons brochure here and they've only got 32 resorts in France.

And while we're waiting, how about Chamrousse? That's in the brochure and I don't think anyone's tried that one yet. I have no idea what it looks like, mind you ... :D :D

We were in St. Sorlin d'Arves in March 2006.

No not Canada either. Its a place I went to three years ago. I could not ski that year had pleurisy and 3 broken ribs. So we went to a few resorts so Hubby could ski and I could get up to the top of mountain via funicular.

No. Travelling all day, drinking and eating Tapas this evening. Skiing first thing in the morning in Arcalis, and then Saturday either back there or whatever is open at Pas de la Casa.
Soldeu, Pal, Arinsal - all closed due to lack of snow and not cold enough to make any.

Yes indeed, there is no feeling like it. Had a full day in Arcalis and had forgotten just how amazing it is to bomb around on some skis. Pas de la Casa is opening tomorrow, yippee!!

Andyhull, I have to say that I think that the paradiski is the best resort in Europe.
So much to do and such a brilliant place to learn and develop.
Is that the Arcabulle Lift in the picture by any chance?

Certainly has a lot to offer, the blacks that come off the Aguille Rouge (and the off piste bits between :D) are awesome, steep, bumpy and long.

The lift is indeed Arcabulle.

So are you going to set a new picture to guess Stewart?

Tony, it is a sweeping statement but also based on my own experience which is limited I know.
I guess I make the statement because it is a very good place to learn and the variety that is on offer for all levels is amazing.
I know that in a year or two time I will have changed my mind probably, but for now that is my thoughts.
Only time will tell though.

I think the quality of the skiing in the Tarantaise is unsurpassed - how many hundreds of kms of slopes within an hour or so of each other with Val Thorens, Meribel, Courchevel, LA Plagne, Les Arcs, La Rosiere, St Foy, Tignes and Val D'Ise to just name the main ones.
