Cold Hands Problem

Hi everyone
My wife suffers from cold extremeties - we've bought boot warmers for her feet but would like your advice on the best warmest gloves/mits. She has some with pouches on the front into which she puts the chemical warmers. Unfortunately, chemical warmers seem to depend on having oxygen to heat them up, so as soon as you zip them in, the supply is cut off and they fail to work! As soon as you take them out they warm up just fine. Zip them back in again and they go cold pretty quick.
Anyone have any ideas, please?

Hestra gloves have been keeping my hands exceptionally warm for a while now. They do mitts as well! Also try those silk glove liners you can wear inside your gloves when it is particularly warm

Edit: I have just been checking out their website, they do gloves with a rechargeable heating system too!

Thanks folks, I'll check out those links - just to clarify her feet are warm as toast - she has the Therm-ic boot warmers - it's her hands we need to sort - I'll check the heated mits and other suggestions - they could be good!

Heated boots are ace, one of my best buys ever. Warning, be careful when old lifts come round from behind (ie. ones that don't slow down) because it can break the battery packs ending in a costly fix :(

Re:Cold Hands Problem

Not all brands of chemical hand warmers are the same. So you might try a different brand with more success. I've used them directly inside my gloves on really cold days (-30). That way it's easy to give them a shake, for a little more heat.

Trencher

Re:Cold Hands Problem

To "solve" cold hands and feet issue, you must understand and "see" big picture!

Keep hands and feet warm is having "warm blood" going to these areas. That means keeping core body zone warm first. No expensive gloves, heat packs etc,,will keep these zones warm if core body is cold!
There are a few strategies all skiers should apply.
1.Wear quality windproof ski wear (no jeans, etc,,,)
2.Think onions,,with layered approach
3.Close all vents, zippers, tears etc,,,, (I do not like jacket with zippered sleeves since cold air enters via zipper)
4.Place heat packs INSIDE jacket near chest. Not on gloves! It is better to have warm blood in shoulder, arm and hands.
5.Know some basic "moves" to circulate hot blood to hands! Watch racers before a ski race or while waiting to race. What do they do?
6. The major problem in reference to cold hands and feet is; inactivity. Move about ski!
7.Before going out,,,dress up and wait 15 minutes while body "heats up" inside!
8.Never drink to warm up!
9.Think keeping core body warm and blood will do rest!
10. As a final "solution",,take a sauna. Then dress up and go skiing! You will never have cold hands!

Keep a warm heart,,,,and the rest willcome!!!
