I would have dragged myself up that last 400m by my teeth in the dark at minus 50oC had I known. I did push up my average downhill distance to 38km though (with a 52km day), which places me just below target for 2,400 for the season, assuming I can get the time, money or whatever to complete.

Re:Targets for the season

Tino, If distance is a target, you are doing it the tough way. I know you do weekends, so Saturday is a good day, (depending on resort), because it is changeover day, and there are few recreational skiers. OTOH, there is a lot of club and league racing and race training going on.

Sundays, though are deathly, since this is first day back on skis for many folk.

Do you find that you are getting the best milage when you get to know a run really well?

That's been a good shift Tino, wait until the daylight hours extend the ski lift opening times to 16:30 and you will easily pass your target. Good effort.

Finn
Re:Targets for the season

Mine is to ski every single run in Les Houches, where we're off to on 2nd January.

I've skiied there twice before on my first & second weeks, and by the end of week 2 was only managing the wide reds.

There are only 2 black runs there, both very steep - one was the 2006 World Championship downhill run, my husband attempted it when it had been race prepared and slid down the top section on his arse!

So to ski the lot is a big challenge for me.

I usually do the day in 3 stints.

1. Find a set of linked runs I like and bomb them for 2 hours.

have a wee gluwein

2. Head for the furthest point I can get too

have a wee beer

3. Head back against the clock, and if I have time do a couple of low level lifts late on

This only works well in big resorts and not on limited area glaciers. That beig said my biggest day was in Zermatt with 55km and that was done mainly using 1 lift.

My targets are very simple:

a) Not to get hurt
b) Not to hurt anyone else
c) Not to get lost

Other than that, as long as I'm ski-ing I know I will have a good time :D.

Ally
