Youtube skiing favorites?

Sorry in advance if his has already been covered mods- i did search first but couldn't find anything

I've been trying to find some really good vids to watch to whet my appetite for skiing- under a month to go now! :D:lol:

If you search for skiing on youtube and the like, you have to wade through loads of crap, so i wondered if any of you ardent skiers know of, or have even uploaded any videos which are worth a watch.

BTW I don't necessarily mean fine examples of skiing technique, just something fun to watch.

I prefer all the videos of people falling over and getting it all wrong.
There was also a horrible video of a guy in Sauze getting almost snapped in half when he got clattered at full tilt by someone.

When you edit a message there's a row of buttons at the top (right under the subject). Click the Youtube button to open a [ youtube ] tag, paste in your URL and click the button again to close the tag. Job done.

Here's one that's a bit more sedate but so funny. It has been posted on j2ski before, I hope ellisitne doesn't mind me resurecting it but it is so worth another viewing at this time of year.

Obergiggle, Yes it was fun, and I guess that most of us who have tried deep stuff have had many days like that.

Thought I recognised the skiing style of one skier, no names. Also, I presume the "thrusters" were ellestine.

Good fun, would be happy to ski with friends who are comfortable in their own falls.

Fabulous!

From the shadow it looks like you were holding the video camera. have you thought about getting a headcam or one that is attached to sunglasses? I'm toying with the idea.

Yes, it was hand-held. That's why I fell at the end! In front of an entire restaurant full of people. The main advantage with holding is that you absorb the vibrations better, and can pan. But a headcam or skicam would be a lot easier, and safer on difficult runs. I thought I might try a helmet cam this winter ..... msej449

I've got a couple like that where I hand held the camera, and tried to video my mate skiing, but I havent grapsed how to embed a youtube file on here. Help?

Click Youtube (on menu above) paste the url of your video and then click youtube (above) again...I think. :wink:

When taking video on the piste I try and hold the camera at waist height with the view finder facing up, it allows me to ski quicker so you can get up and past your subject for a different angle :oops: :oops:

I have put various links to my web site on my return from hols on the forum, I think the last one was Adelboden 2009 and previous to that was LGb 2009, I was not being a smart Ar*se but I have been involved with video taking and editing for many years even carrying my Dad's gear on holidays when I was young and I have just learnt by trail and error different technique, only trying to offer some advice :( :(

:mrgreen: Because you can hold the Camera low and your stance is lower you can gain more speed for some cross over shots, I normally don't get on my video's it is full of shots of Mrs and Little W :D

Ah yes. Ingrid Bergstrom. Manages to come across as being gorgeous without actually being gorgeous, if you see what I mean. Very cute. But with that horrible west coast accent. I'd find a way of shutting her up )
I read an article about her online recently, and she appears in a few adverts these days - goggles being one I seem to recall.

My mate was in his first week of the season teaching in Andorra and a snowboarder took him out in exactly the same way as the leg breaker right in front of his class.

Hit him so hard it knocked him about 50 metres down the hill snapped a ski in half and broke his coller bone. But lucky to be alive.

Ruined his season as well.

It looked to me like they didn't exactly stop in the best of places but at the same time the snowboarder was totally out of control, you can see in the slomo he was actually in the air when he connected with the skier.

I have to admit snowboarders do frighten me - they appear from nowhere and then go 'smash' right in front of me - I hate hearing the sound of one behind me. The ski instructors keep telling me to look downhill all the time, but I keep half an eye on who's behind me.

Pablo - would you please take pity on me and tell me how to embed U-tube on here. I managed the link but that was all. You have to remember I was brought up with slide-rules and log tables and imperial measurements etc.

When you select reply to a post, click the 'youtube' tab thing which is there ^ paste in the link from the youtube and then click the 'youtube' tab again.

If you quote this post in the reply the instructions will make a little more sense, follow the arrow ;)

Difficult to say. Its a regular stopping point for skiers in Sauze, as it comes at the top of a very steep sudden drop, and most people stop there, have a good look down and then decide to tuck up or traverse down. I have sometimes seen people spread out across the top there making it hard to come straight through, but it looks to me like the boarder who took him out paid no care or attention at all to the fact people had stopped there, and was 100% to blame.

who knows what really happened, but the boarder in the air is a good clue. In the comments on you tube, the poster of the video says that the boarder, and the skier are best mates. My guess is that the boarder was doing an ollie over his mates skis, and it went a little wrong. One of my pet peeves, is people taking chances with the safety of others for fun. I sent my nephew home once after he went to spray his sister with snow, and ran into her. Their father thought I had been a bit harsh, but learned a lesson later in the season. He was skiing down a long cat track, when a friend's son came up behind him crouched down, and very quietly. The kid thought it would be fun to open one of my bro in laws ski bindings. The first thing my BIL knew, he was out of control on one ski. He end up on crutches for a few weeks with a damaged MCL.

That's presumably why children (under 17's) have such a high accident rate. I was looking at the figures the other day for another thread, and apparently children are twice as likely to have an accident as adults.

Children and teenagers don't perceive danger in the same way as adults and they think it's fun to play jokes etc. when they're on skis. I think you were quite right to send your nephew home.
