Re:Ski Sunday ...

No new series of High Altitude then? :(
I hope that they dont just show the highlights of skiing that I will have watched on Eurosport earlier, and that they return to a mixed bag of things like it used to be, with resort reviews etc.

Re:Ski Sunday ...

Sounds like High Altitude may have gone by the wayside Tony, not a cheap programme to make judging by the amount of travelling and hi-octane challenges they carried out in the first two series'!

As for the beeb's ski coverage apparently live World Cup stuff will be on the red button, not sure if they've done that in prior years or not?

Re:Ski Sunday ...

Yes they have had the red button facility before. However, I tend to watch on Eurosport as their coverage is more comperhensive and they show live both first and second runs.
I tend not to watch the slalom for some reason, I dont find it is interesting or exciting. Super GS and downhill are my favourites.

I was hoping they'd have an intermediates red cruise that I could enter one year......

I know what you mean. Giant Slalom is always good to watch from a technical point of view. For Slalom I tend to watch just the second half of the second run.

I also find it really difficult to stay awake when watching slalom. I don't know if it's the Eurosport commentators voices or the exertions of the evening before.

I record all teh skiing on eurosports HD as its normally a tad early to get up to watch it. Since trying slalom this year i tend to watch it a bit now, but you can't beat the gold old DH! Looking forward to beaver creek in a few weeks, love the courses with big jumps!

Re:Ski Sunday ...

Eurosport gets my vote for the live coverage with GS & DH being the most exciting. I think the Stelvio piste in Bormio the most challenging on the DH circuit.
The BBC did a series with Roger Black the Olympic 400m runner & co presenter Konrad Bartelski quite a few years ago now, they travelled to all of the worlds best ski stations and basically had a blast. Definetly one of the most down to earth skiing programmes I have seen. The Beeb could repeat that show for us!
Finn

Re:Ski Sunday ...

Found this from Ed Drake (The snowboarder on High Altitude)

http://www.snowboardclub.co.uk/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-36384-postdays-0-postorder-asc.html

"Sadly the show has been canned, a new controller stepped in for BBC2 in May and coming from BBC4 we were seen as bit laddy and low brow for her, plus in her defence there are hundreds of shows waiting for their shot all the time and she went with last in, first out.

On the up side there will be a two one offs, one I watched yesterday that would have been the first episode of this winters series (because of the Olympics we needed to get going early) but then got canned so it's now a stand alone called Arctic Man, Go Fast or Go Home and I'm pretty pleased with that.

The other one is a much more 'high brow' exploration of British Columbia as a back ground build up to the Olympics, I think in a bid to show the new controller we can do mature. Should be interesting...

Obviously I'm gutted, it was the dream job, but at the same time I still feel very lucky to have shot one episode let alone a whole series.

And to clear up the debate about the series and the Ski Sunday pieces you are both right. It was the first series of High Altitude, but in a bid to trail the series and get it out there they re-cut all the films I had made for Ski Sunday the year before and put them out as ten minute shorts under the High Altitude banner.

Thanks for the support and sorry it's not better news. On the upside if you've seen any of the NZ Open pipe footage you'll know that the prospect of the Olympics is pant wettingly exciting.

Cheers

Ed "

Re:Ski Sunday ...

He sounds nothing like David Coulthard  You can't be talking about the same fella I know
The John Clark I know, has extensive racing experience, and is an Olympian. He is well qualified to comment on how a racer is tackling each segment of a course, having been Manager of the Scottish Alpine Team. So although, a competitor may cross the line in 1st position, that lead may have been reduced if they made slight errors. It's a shame that the public don't appreciate his knowledge of the racing biz.
