I had a look at the 16th December, Canada one, for Pablo, advertised at GBP329-.

If he's going on his own (I don't know if there is a Mrs Escobar yet) and flying from Manchester (closer to Colombia I thought) there are supplements, because the pricing is based on 4 people sharing.

Anyway, I got to a provisional price of GBP529-50 before I had to start entering things like my name.

Well, everyone knows skiing in Europe is for the poor and Ian Wickham :wink:

Will need to hold out on December, snow isn't looking great although it was falling hard yesterday...

January is more of a safe bet (albeit a little more expensive), save the skis (called the Rockies for a reason) :D

Edit: going with my old man, things are less taxing on me financially then. The lift pass is the killer really,,, 6 day is running at $480 Canadian.

Lake Louise is probably my favourite of the 3 hills 'around' Banff. There is plenty to keep you occupied especially if you want to get a bit more in to 'off piste'. Not so much a ski from place to place and stop for a beer kinda resort. So much scope terrain wise especially when you start venturing off groomed runs. The views are amazing, see the hanging glacier above Lake Louise 8). I'd stay in Banff and check out both Sunshine and LL... for specific details shoot me a mail and I will deal you in.

(the Olympic chair does not run, neither does the Eagle and there is a 'new' (second hand from Vail) gondola which runs from the base to the top of the old Eagle chair)

Sunshine Village is good but when you go below Village level there are a couple irritating flats when you are on a snowboard:

:lol: You can still get a beer at a few different places (at LL for example, at the base there is a couple of bars and at the base of Larch there is a lodge, at Sunshine there are a few places at Village level, 1 at the bottom of Goatseye and one at the base of the Gondola, all serving beer) but it isn't a place for clocking up huge mileage on loads of different runs. The town of Banff on the other hand, has pretty awesome nightlife.

Not the kind of deals you are looking for, but I've been drooling over this site. I don't know what's worse, no money to buy new stuff, or no time to ski because of work.

GBP423 for 11 days in Banff (albeit allocation on arrival), 23rd of January. GBP344 for the 12th of Dec although I don't fancy that as much because I am still waiting for 2 new pairs of skis which aren't showing many signs of appearing and the fact the Rockies are still a little.... rocky ;)

I finish uni on the 10th of December, have exams between the 10th (Jan) and 22nd of January but apart from that I am off until the 4th of February :)

We are stuck with going during Feb half-term when the slopes are busiest and the prices are highest :cry:

Re ski deals, no 2 son just bought a pair of used K2 Apache on ebay, c/w Salamon bindings, GBP89. Bases and edges had been reconned ad as new, and all waxed up.

How come you've still got this year left and then another 2 to go? I thought all Bachelor degrees were 3 years long, unless you had a year out in industry or somewhere? I thought you were in Uni last year?
If you then get a couple of years in which to go ski-ing, I will die of jealousy :mrgreen:

Unfortunately I am 'stuck' with ski-ing Feb half-term until my younger daughter leaves school (just under 2 years time). She can't miss school time during the term, and Christmas we have family and holidaymaker obligations, as is also the case with Easter. When she was younger we used to go the first week of Jan after the kids go back to school, and it was about half-price then, but now her school work is too important to her future career for her to miss anything.

At least we have proved now that we can also ski at Oct half-term, on a glacier.

just booked 1 week skiing for a family of four flying out boxing day from manchester to genoble, staying in st sorlin d'arves GBP299 each slef catering. dont expect the accomodation to be up to much but hey you only sleep and wash in there. the company i booked with was fast track ski, the deal was GBP90 more expensive on their website, I telephoned them and asked what the best deals were.

Most honours degree in Scotland are 4 years long. No year in industry although there is a 3rd year placement which takes place during the summer. Not essential but recommended. I will get a couple of years to go skiing unless I pick up an extremely well paying graduate post :wink:

For answering my question. As you know, I can't stand it when I don't know the answer to something. And I really didn't know that Honours degrees in Scotland generally take 4 years - does that make a Scottish degree better than an English or Welsh one, or does it make A Levels better than Scottish Highers or whatever you call them? - I hope this doesn't count as Wibbling - I don't want my children sold into slavery by Admin :shock:

Good deal - most accomodation in St Sorlin is fairly new and it is better to stay there than St Jean where we stayed one year. The skiing is good for families and the access best from St Sorlin to the Seybelles area. We used to drive there. Nightlife fairly limited when we went 4 or 5 years ago but with kids that does not usually matter. Enjoy :D

Ally, both my kids took time off during school term for holidays with us as we could not afford to go at half term and didnt want to go when the place was teeming with kids and families either. I like the slopes quieter TBH. Both of them went on to Uni and didnt suffer.

This year will be the first year we haven't taken our children out of school & that's only because we are treating ourselves to a one off XMAS holiday. As a family we nearly always try & go out in January as it is cheaper than half term. We just throw a sickie for the kids & like Ian said earlier its educational. :mrgreen:
