Where can I go skiing I November?

I'm thinking about a skiing trip at the end of November. Obviously need snow and my only other preference is ski/in out or bus stop very very close to accomodation...Does anyone have any ideas?

Ruka's slopes are already open, have been for about 3 weeks now. There are some deals about with Inghams as there is a lot of new accomodation new for this year.

Zermatt and Saas Fee are open pretty well all year, you won't get ski in/out there though. Tignes is worth a look as Mountain Sun do rather good value accom hotel and will bus to/from lifts.

http://www.mountainsunltd.com/

This is where AllyG is right now :D

Re:Where can I go skiing I November?

Hintertux will probably give you the greatest amount of piste for your money at that time, The valley has had good snow the last weeks too. No ski-in-out likely and quite a limited nightlife. Cervinia opens proper next weekend so that might be an option with Zermatt to play around in.

Re:Where can I go skiing I November?

The possible issue with Zermatt and Cervnia transfer might be the weather. If you get it wrong, it's a big hit to resolve.

Tino, jumping slightly, but not wholly, aside, have you been in Nordkette? Seems to me if you can get easily into town, you have fast access up the hill. Probably not suitable for end November, (but might be), but does solve the other half of the issue, ie getting up to the top quickly.

Dave, no idea where it is even? Enlighten me :). Could be another option!

Talking Zermatt, today wasn't much fun up top. Only the KM cable car running, no drags due to -15C and 60kph winds turning the glacier surface to sheet ice. Run to Trockener Steg was open but biting ice winds on the flat section reduced it to a calf busting slog. Blue sky day and I had lunch in Furri about 2.30 when I gave up and it was georgeous, t-shirt weather. It seems that at glacier height the wind can really play a part early season and with queues of 500-600 for the only lift going made for a less than perfect day. Had a sauna and a swim this afternoon and on top of my very tasty Rosti, made up for it.

Re:Where can I go skiing I November?

Tino, it is above Innsbruck, you can get there straight from the town. It is highly rated by boarders, because it is steep. I consult BTW site because boarders seem to know the places to head for. 27 minutes town to peak.

I have one spare day in Jan when i'm on the train from the Arlberg to Worgl, looking for a fast access area.

Bad luck with your days riding, ~ sounds like Cairngorm on a bad day!

Re:Where can I go skiing I November?

May look into that Dave, the reason I do Switzerland for short trips is access to resort. Much faster than early or late season Austria. Don't mind the journey when doing a week. Saying that I am really looking forward to the Ski Circus in December. I have heard great things in terms of riding and nightlife.

Re:Where can I go skiing I November?

This covers boarding in Nordkette Tino. Not a place to go for a week, I imagine. But it is steep, no beginner runs.

http://www.boardtheworld.com/Home/Resorts/Austria/Nordkette?desID=36&cCode=AT

I'm green, I wanted to do the circus, can't do everything though. Saalbach & Hinterglemm are both quite lively. Was there with my B-i-L, quite restrictive really.

Should have said Tino, I made the assumption that if you were located in Germany, Innsbruck would be close, timewise.

Re:Where can I go skiing I November?

I am located in Germany but virtually on the French border. CH has superior transport links than Austria. Karlsruhe to Zermatt is faster by train than car, whereas Tux for example is 3 hours longer. Since I am holding a beer driving is not an option :)

thanks for the suggestion tho, and cheers for the link Bandit, I'll take a look once I'm off roaming charges ;)

Re:Where can I go skiing I November?

Obergurgl opens mid november. The majority of accomodation is ski in and out. Very short transfer from Innsbruck.
The only down side is that it's not cheap. I've just booked our ski passes for new year week for the bargain price of GBP206!
I'd highly recommend it though, especially if it's for a weekend (26th to 30th by any chance?).
I'm planning a week not a short break, and if it's not ski in/out that's not a problem as long as I can get a bus to and from accomodation or hire a ski locker at the lift.
