Jobs

Hi my name is max...

Me and a friend are trying to get a job in the same resort, so he can teach me to snowboard...

We are going to the natives job fair on the 24th to try and find a job, but if that dosnt work we were thinking of going out to a resort, and try and get a job there. Has anyone done this before, is there any special thing that must be done...

Any recommendations for this... Also we are both nubies we have no experience, i have a cookery course done and he is well a great assistant...

Re:Jobs

Hi Max, welcome to our little forum.

I worked in several resorts over a number of years but always got a job before I went with a tour operator. The trouble with this for you and your mate is that you are likely to be split up (unless you apply as a couple which you might not want to do, but its worth a try!). I think the Natives job fair sounds perfect for what you want to do, have you got a particular resort in mind?

Other than that, it's a risk but you could always just turn up in resort of your choice and start looking, but this is a BIG risk as you could obviously end up with nothing. And don't leave it too late or all the good jobs will go, in fact, all the jobs will go.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Re:Jobs

Hello all,

My name is Julie and I am looking for a snowboard job as well. I come from Canada and have done a couple of seasons in the Rockies. My question is Max, how is the job hunt going? I am unfamiliar with germany resorts and am trying my best to navigate through the sites, hence how I have stumbled across this forum. If anyone has any reccommendations I'm open to any opinions. I do have a working visa but my German needs work.
Thanks heaps!

Re:Jobs

Max,
Have you thought about getting a similar type of experience at home first? That is - working as a waiter, bartender, cleaner, kitchen assistant etc.

I have never worked in a ski resort, but I do run 2 holiday cottages here in the UK, and when I was looking to employ a cleaner to work with me, I was really looking to find someone with experience and references, or someone I knew personally.

From the owner or manager's point of view, it is risky employing someone with no relevant work history, because they may simply not turn up, or (in a ski resort) disappear off ski-ing, or go out binge drinking etc.

I live in fear of missing a dirty sock under the bed, or something equally awful, every time I do a changeover clean. All it would need would be a really bad review on Trip Advisor or somewhere to possibly wreck my business, which I have spent years building up. I would imagine the same applies to a similar business in a ski resort.

Ally

Re:Jobs

I can understand Julie wanting to season in Europe (to see how big a big ski area actually is!), but I'd have expected the big French resorts or some of the major swiss ones first!
