1st Time At Hemel

I skied Hemel for the first time today. The snow is better than the MK stuff I reckon, though the uplift seems to have the same reliability issues. Whilst I was there 1 Poma broke down 3 times in an hour, and the tracks for the uplift seem to have the same rutting problems that MK has. There were 2/3 guys filling in the snow ruts all the time.

On the plus side, the lockers do not eat your GBP1, and there is free parking The hire skis seem fairly good quality. :D

On the minus side, it is a smaller slope than MK, there are insufficient changing cubicles, and they do not have any hooks for hanging up your clothes :roll: and the service in the cafe upstairs was so poor that I walked out. It would be interesting to see it crowded. I would have got a can from a vending machine in the entrance, but that machine was being repaired.

If you take the hire skis, be aware that they seem to issue them based on your height - less some. Mine came up to my chin, my expression must have been quite interesting :lol:

As for the claims that the snow is fluffy powder, Hmmmm, perhaps it is sometimes )

I am off there tomorrow for the 1st time with 5 others of mixed ability's so will be interesting to get their opinions

I hope by going tomorrow you can avoid another large group of small schoolchildren which descended on the changing area at noon today :shock:

It all seems a bit small scale, small slope, small set up, it looks as if it could get crowded and GBP20 per hour........ so for my lot to go for an hour would cost the princely some of GBP58, plus petrol, too expensive there sending the sport the same way as tennis, elitist :evil:

Wickers, if you want a big indoor slope, you need to cross the channel.

Thanks for that and the price is Euro46 for four hours, we really are a small thinking nation if there was not so much poverty in the world I would call us a third world nation ............ but I'm not surprised :evil:

Hemel looks similar to Chill Factore, The place in Holland looks worth a try - we are only two hours from Hull! Wickers the 46 Euros includes Tea Coffee and a Barbeque - not bad really...

Steady Ian, our tennis club will give you an annual subscription for not much more than that. Best all weather courts in our part of Scotland, (No prizes for guessing who is in charge of maintenance!, and pretty much everything else, new committee members are like melting snow!) Floodlit, so able to keep playing through all the non-ski bits of winter.

we pay GBP100 pa for a family of four, three great artificial courts, floodlights and a bar :thumbup:. Wonderful to play on a sunday and then watch the cricket 8)

It is very much elitist, so not quite sure what a member ship costs but it is a pretty penny, I'll make some enquires as Little W has been to a couple of half term coaching days and I would like to get her into a club, I'll report back 8)
