I have done it twice before, and its one painful little injury, and one you can do nothing about. You'll be limpig about for a couple of weeks and possibly struggling to get normal shoes on for a while, and then suddenly its gone. Shouls be fine by the time you go away.
Kefalonia could be lovely when you go. Or quite wet and windy. I hope its the former.
In the meantime, if you need some pain killers, anyone know a good pharmacist?????

Re:How Glad am I that its not time to ski.

Hi Rose,
Sorry to hear about your toe. Telephones are an awful nuisance when they ring while you're in the bath/shower/toilet etc. Our phone is in the living room which is sort of like an office, and it can be very awkward if someone comes in while I'm sitting there dressed in nothing but a towel.

I know someone who broke their toe, and they were given painkillers in order to keep them walking. Apparently they were told that not walking correctly does more damage than the original break (to the pelvis I think) but don't know if it's actually true. Anyway, their toe healed okay, but it took a while.

Ally

Re:How Glad am I that its not time to ski.

Well, looks like its time to start thinking about ski-ing again. Hope everyone had a great off-season. Mine went well until mountain biking in Slovenia 6 weeks ago when old Brucie here managed to have a head on collision with a car on a mountain road!!

Result - 6 broken ribs, lung problems and a 7 day stay in local Hospital. The good news is that it could have been worse and I live to fight another day. Bad news is that I am still Hors de Combat.

More good things are that I have met many Slovenian friends, and by the way it is a beautiful country, and I should be okay for the forthcoming season.

Sorry to hear about other peoples mishaps. Think we should all stick to safe sports like skiing and boarding :D

Brucie,
That does sound pretty horrible. I agree none of us should do any dangerous non-skiing activities.

I was just gardening yesterday and I got stung by some dreadfully poisonous insect through my jeans and it hurt awfully and got all red and swollen and I took some piriton and retired to bed, wondering if I was ever going to wake up again (someone who lived only about a mile away from here died recently from wasp stings).

Anyway, as you can see, I am still alive, and so, apparently are you. Congratulations!

Ally

Slovenia is indeed a lovely country with some interesting people. I'd move out there, its in a great spot in Europe.
I'll try to avoid arguing with cars though, they usually win.

Re:How Glad am I that its not time to ski.

Brucie,
The most frightening thing about it was that I never saw what bit me - I just felt an intense pain and then I rushed inside to have a look at my leg. It might have been a horse fly - they're pretty tough because they have to bite through horse 'leather' - but I don't really know.

I am going ski-ing in Tignes in October on the glacier, and then in Courchevel in Feb half-term. I need to start running again to get fit for ski-ing.

I had an awful shock when I went to get some Swiss money (we're flying to Geneva and staying in a hotel there for the night), because the pound seems to have dropped about 6% in about a week, or whenever it was I last looked at the exchange rate. I hope it recovers before Feb because otherwise the lift passes etc. are going to cost the earth.

Rose - I'm glad your toe is still there, in one piece. It's surprisingly difficult to walk without a big toe.

Ally
