I'd like something that told me my mileage, a bit like the website but one that actually works for the lift passes I use! Not sure I'd really want a GPS device as I use a map to navigate around the pistes.
There was a guy at the ski show last year selling some device which I forget now, but it seemed pretty revoloutionary and reasonably priced too at GBP99 I think. I bet he is there again this year.

I have an iphone with an App' that will give me highest speed and average speed and a piste map but the one I am looking for is the one which you can download to your computer and track your milage link into your camera for photos the price seems about right, I'll have a look around on the 22nd. On a different subject I saw a pair of sunglasses with a built in video camera, not too sure about the quality aspect all for the grand price of GBP180. 8)

Re:GPS tracker for skiing

I'm not sure how good they are for skiing but Garmin do a large range of GPS watches. I have recently bought my husband one for his running. I can't see why it wouldn't work for skiing as it works walking, running and even in the car. Amazon keep sending me emails of Garmin product offers. Having a look on there may help you decide what you would like/need in a device even if you buy elsewhere. I have heard that Garmin have Mac compatible products but I don't know if they all are or not.

Re:GPS tracker for skiing

get an iphone and download the "motionx-gps" app. Only GBP1.79 (or something like that?) and it's very good vfm! Measures top, current and average speed, distance travelled and it highlights your trails using satellite images.

Can stop to take a photo and save it to your trail and u can also listen to the songs on your iphone while using the app. More over, you can send your trails to your friends so they can follow / find your current position and if you go off the rails it has a compass (if you have a map) and locates your coordinates should you need to get in touch with mountain rescue, plus ..... it's still a phone!! Not tried it on the slopes yet but it's an excellent jogging toy. Will be putting it to use in Les Deux Alpes in March though!! I imagine if you used it all day you'd be talking to a dead phone? Battery life on iphone is poor at the best of times.

Mammut Safety Inclinometer might also prove to be a useful app? Has avalanche warnings, weather forecasts etc etc... This is a free app too.
