European skiing - most expensive?

I have only ever skied in France and can vouch it is expensive, but is it more or less expensive than Swizerland? Where is the most pricey and where are the bargains for Alpine skiing?

I would say it's possible to find good value in all European ski countries. Yes, parts of the French Alps (particularly the Tarentaise) are pricey, however if you choose a resort that's a little less fashionable, and which is not popular with Tour Operators, prices are less shocking.

Best price shocker I read of last winter was a hamburger in Courchevel for 38 euros :twisted:

Hi Clairehbo,
Been to France , Italy & Austria. Of the resorts I have been to Italy is cheapest closely followed by Austria then France ( havent been any where else).
Italy was about 1/2 to 1/3 the price of France for food & booze bought in cafes, bars etc....( which is where all my spending money goes :roll:.
France can be cheap if buying from Supermarkets ( not resort supermarkets though)

Select your resort carefully but there are bargains about, I think frostbite is correct Italy is possibly the cheapest for eating out and of course it depends what you drink as in the UK beer is expensive though out Europe, in livigno for example you can still purchase a reasonable glass of red for Euro1.5 and pizza starts from Euro5. Prices are taken from the Bar Agata and the Bellavista restaurant as of July 09 8)

OMG - hamburger in Courchevel for 38 euros - that is shocking - we went to Courchevel for a day trip last year from the resort we were staying at and thought 20 euros for 2 coffees was a lot. But then walked inside to the loos, only to have the doors opened by two door men and a red carpet to the WC's, a diamond shop and a Channel to the side. Up a mountain!!!

Then the Euro6 for a coffee in Courcheval(at the side of the slope) was good value...I really think the Euro3.2 for a pack of crisps in Flaine was a bit of a liberty..Zermatt before Xmas was much better value

Double cheese burger 99 cents :wink: Which is what I had from this McDs. Canyons resort in the background. Then off to enjoy a free afternoons skiing. Lift tickets are free on the day you fly in.

Even at Deer Valley, (an up market Park City resort) they only charge about $12 for a grilled chicken breast sandwich and fries

Why are people so shocked at the prices in Courchevel, it well known that they do not want the average man in the street, thats why they price them out..... it is not a place I feel I need to go before I pop my cloggs, so I will be giving Courchevel a very wide berth 8)
