Webcam watch

As it's September it's time for me to get nerdy and watch the webcams. Anyone care to join me?

If I had a prize to give for the first snow fall spotted (Europe) I would, but I don't, so I can't.

Re:Webcam watch

Sorry...

Autumn

As we continue our journey around the Sun, the north pole moves away from the Sun. The Sun rises lower in the sky so the days continue getting shorter. When the Sun is at its mid-point in the sky, we reach the 'autumn equinox', around 22 September. Day and night are both 12 hours long and its the beginning of autumn.

Winter

The day when the north pole is furthest from the Sun is called the 'winter solstice'. The Sun crosses the sky at its lowest point all year. Therefore it crosses the sky in the quickest time so this is the shortest day of the year. Winter solstice happens around 22 December and marks the start of winter. From then on, the days start getting longer.

 It's the teacher in me!
The three-month period of the shortest days and weakest solar radiation occurs during November, December and January in the Northern Hemisphere (May-July in the Southern). 8) 8)
Re:Webcam watch

My winter has started. I am afraid that I could not wait until September, and went out a day earlier for a 2 hour bike ride. Mebbe 20 miles. (Yes, I know that's pretty c**p, I used to run 20 miles quicker than that!)
Like Tino, I am trying to engineer a reasonable size winter. It looks as though my Niederau ski buddy Mel will be on a restricted winter, so will need to be inventive. Of course, Tino does not have to submit to a higher authority. And, he is within a steam train journey of a million slopes every weekend. And early winter. And late winter. And, as we have see, summer, and Autumn.
Have already tried, "Just off to the pub dear, yes I am taking my skis, just going to show them to Angus. I will be back two weeks on Tuesday." To which, no direct refusal, mind,- "you are decorating the back bedroom on Wednesday, my love, and if you finish early, there is the gutters to clear, etc.."
I once did get away with, "Couldn't get a flight back dear, was forced to stay for two weeks."
