Airlines

Has any-one flown with Jet2.com. My holiday to Ruka the airlines and the flight times have changed three times. First it was easyjet, then Hamburg International and now Jet2.com. Also the times are getting later and later so much so that I will have to book an extra day off work. But one problem for us will be......have to vacate cabin at 10am flight not until 10pm.

Yes. Jet2.com have a number of OLD boeing 737's that they charter out. These are the ones that carry Royal Mail post and convert into passenger planes by means of inserting panels inside with seats screwed into them. I flew with them to Turin in March, it was ok but the plane was as old as any still flying and the interior left plenty to be desired. Uncomfortable seats with hardly any padding, which were falling apart. There is a trolley service.

Jet2.com also have some other new passenger only planes, but I understand the ones they charter out are the older ones as they are cheaper because of the state they are in!!!

You'll be fine, but its about as crap a plane as you could possibly get!!!!!!!!!!!

Re:Airlines

Thanks guys, I suppose there is still time for them to change again. When we flew Thomas Cook to Greece the reviews were terrible, but it was the best hastle free flights we had flown. We are hoping that Inghams will come up with some-where to store our luggage on our last day its okay leaving your accomdation at 10am and you always get 7 days ski hire and lift pass for cost of 6 days so will still be able to ski. Can you ski with your suitcases strapped to you

Rose, most holiday companies, will arrange a bag store and shower/changing facilities in one of their contracted properties. You should be fine, if in doubt send Inghams an email. :D

Not quite that bad, Macc )

When Dave Mac says no problems, that really does leave a lot to the imagination. I can imagine swimming in an ocean of sharks and possibly having no problems, but it would be a frightening experience!

Anyway, as long as they maintain the aircraft better than most African Airlines do, you should survive the flight.

Re:Airlines

Flying is an amazing experience. So many people take it for granted, but I still find myself being knocked out by the whole thing, so I make the holiday start at the airport and try to enjoy the flight: looking down on our world below, passing over places I have always wanted to go to, wondering how 100 tons of metal stays in the air...etc.

Try to really enjoy it. Even if your plane is a heap of crap.

C'mon Tone, an ocean is huuge, and sharks are quite smallish really. Have had a couple of encouters, once swimming on the barrier reef, came face to face with one underwater, think both me and the shark shat ourselves.

Then I tried to persuade myself that it was probably just a reef shark, wouldn't bite, but might give you an awful nasty suck!

Can't imagine what the shark told it's mates. 8)

Had another encounter just off Sydney harbour, swimming from my boat to help a girl in distress, that could have been more threatening. (The shark, not the girl!) Doesn't half improve your swimming though!

Re:Airlines

A slight case of Fred Drift here...I have snorkelled with Carribean Reef sharks in the Bahamas. All of them were bigger than me. The sharks were being fed by the staff at Stuart Cove's Dive Centre, all very safe and a tourist activity. I have also met with a Barracuda in Jamaica, again, big fish, easily as big as me, circled me 3 times and got bored. The Dive Master had a very large knife in her hand, just in case )

I think the sharks on land are bigger and nastier though. Some of them even masquerade as friends :(

I don't have too much problem with grotty old planes, my take is that the folks up front get some flying practice in, in contrast to brand new planes, where the folks up front have to read the manual, look at a computer screen and push buttons.
That being a gross generalisation

I have flown from Dubrovnik to Ohrid on a Tupelov 134, which are much older and worse than the 154. Its the ones with the glass noses cones, converted bomber parts I understand! Horrible plane. Good vodka though.

The airports around much of eastern europe used for tourists were and often still are military bases!
