Fighting the relaxed muscle

I have today purchased a two pedal powered cycle, it is stage two in my "getting back to my former glory" of a lean, fast, fit, fighting machine, just to keep you updated stage one was eating low fat food at present that has amounted to a weight loss of six lb...
As above stage two is increasing exercise hence the bike, so to all you fitness guru's out there I would like a fitness program to follow over the next three months which involves gradually increased milage, I do not want to hit the roads tomorrow peddling like a maniac and get bored after a couple of weeks and quit and bike collects dust in the garage, any help would be very much appreciated.

Love

Slim x

Re:Fighting the relaxed muscle

The lycra comment reminds me of a former business partner who bought a mountain bike (and the lycra pants) to loose weight. He went out every w/e on 10/15 mile cross country rides across the common. He didn't seem to be loosing much weight. Then I heard from someone who went on a ride with him. The ride always ended at a greasy spoon for a big fried breakfast.

Anyway Ian, You have to fit in a little weight training with your regime. One of the problems we have as we get older is the loss of muscle that comes to all after 30 or so. Less muscle = less calories burned. Doesn't have to be much, just 1/2 an hour a week with some dumbells will make a huge difference.

Trencher

I agree with Trencher some varied weight training as well but you are lucky I live in Sheffield which, like Rome,is built on 7 hills .....I've left the bike in the garage as you can't start gently...maybe this summer,,,,

Re:Fighting the relaxed muscle

 :DHi,

My fitness regime usually involves one sit up in the morning when i get out of bed, walking to the snack wagon during the working day, then walking about 2 miles a day in the factory ( the tea machine is the other end :(),also having a brain like a seive i find myself back and forth up and down the stairs because the little grey cells keep forgetting something....

After my trip at the end of next week i am due in for a consultation about my hernia, and once that has been sorted (if the hospital doesn't kill me) i am thinking of investing in a rowing machine....at my age i should be thinking of trying to be a bit fitter......could walk to the pub for my saturday morning fry up then... :D

jon.

I'm pleased that you guys are having a laugh at my expense, remember "I am An Athlete" and "my body is a temple" and before you guys say it it's not the Taj Mahal, here in Norfolk we have plenty of flat paths to peddle my bike, and with every push of those pedals is another few ounces that I will not be carrying around with me, as for trencher you will not get me in a gym for love nor money, well may be love if she is fit enough, but no I am not into weights.
I maybe thought someone out there would give me some sort of an idea as to what milage I should start off with and how should I increase the milage over the weeks, but I shall have to develop my own milage chart and hope the old legs can cope.

Happy Cycling

Lance Armstrong
