Old Git's Club

In an earlier thread Mr Double Ya suggested we should set up on Old Git's Club for 'senior' members to contribute.

Not for youngsters fit enough to pull or tear muscles, but for those who only gently strain them, or maybe are still skiing with arthritis, or following knee or hip replacements, or heart attacks or strokes etc.

How are you managing ?

Not for those who worry about Beige ski jackets on e-Bay or new style skis with go faster stripes, but for those whose skis 'are as good as they were twenty years ago so why buy new ones?

Who is still wearing/using the oldest skis/boots/salopettes/ski jacket/gloves/hat/goggles etc

Not for the heated chairlifts and windscreen brigade, but for those who were 'towed up the slopes on a rope by a pit pony on holiday'.

What was skiing like 'in the those early days ?'

My personal ambition is to get a free lift pass at 75. I have 14 years to go but do any members receive one or know of anybody receiving a freebie ?

Bit of sterotyping here Brandy. :shock: But then, your're just a young feller. :D

I would not qualify with your criteria.

I bought a new pair of skis last Friday. I realise this is a wanton waste of money. Especially, since my 12 year old K2s were just worn in. (3~6 weeks per season) And when buying the K2s, I traded in a pair of Blizzard Firebirds, just 26 years after procuring them.

Also just bought a new jacket, there was hardly a mark on the 10 year old one. Might have to change the avatar!

Boots are about 18 years old though, rear entry Reichle 777, and these are beginning to show their age.

As for a free age pass, you have had it chum. The lift companies long ago have worked out that the guys doing the most skiing, can hardly remember their own names. Had a day on the the Schiwelt with Admin, earlier this season, asked for a reduced price pass, (Me, not Admin) ~ was told you would get a reduction when you are past 80!

So, while on the tennis/squash court/running track/fells I cannot maintain the pace of a few years ago, my ski speed is still getting quicker. Still working on improvements to technique, still learning tighter lines down my favourite mountain.

What was the question again? :shock:

Well you already living in the retirement capitol " The south coast " so you do show some good planning there, in France the free lift pass is still 75, my plan is to get my free pass then pop my cloggs on the piste on the last day of the ski season........I'm gonna be a pain in the Ar*e right to the bitter end, :thumbup:

Now I like to go to areas that offer discounts to the 60+s...makes me feel very superior...but then I have just bought a new pair of skis and then I tore a ligament or 2 going too fast in The 3 Valleys so maybe I don't qualify

We have met a lady friend who skis with us in StGervais and she must be sixty plus, but she takes some keeping up on the smooth stuff,but has had to give up the deep stuff because of her knees. She reckons you need to be 80 to get a free pass.

What are the age qualifications exactly - some old gits can be miserable old gits at quite a young age! Is it exclusively male and if so we presumably need an Old Bat section? Some of us are recycled teenagers of course so that can be the junior old git/bat section. Oh dear, getting carried away now so off for my afternoon zzzzzzzzzz

With an early membership of just 5 I thought the OGC had fallen without forming a quorum. I didn't suggest it should be a MOGC (Miserable OGC). Why should we be miserable. Retired, pension, a bit of exhorbitantly paid consultancy to pay for the skiing - the down side is skiing is over for this year. The up side, summer is coming, I have tickets for The Open, The Ashes, 20/20 World Cup and Royal Ascot and in my spare time its over the downs with the bike or walking the dog, and I might have to squeeze in a few rounds of golf for exercise. And I haven't thought about summer holiday yet. OGC member maybe but not MOGC. B****y tough this retirement. (I suppose being a Brighton supporter is a bit of a bummer !!)
