I know this is Amanda's off topic thread but I thought I would bore the pants off a few people.
I have just witnessed a stroke of genius in my Hubbys workshop. He makes star wars replica helmets, armour and weapons. He is quite renowned for his products, it started as a hobby but has sort of turned into a little mini business selling all over the world. He made it using a small home made vac former, my oven and my vaccum cleaner. This meant production was a bit slow and time consuming, but an industrial vac former could cost about GBP4000. So he has made a very large Vac former built into the workshop which contains its own heater, vaccum etc and hinged to a mould maker, all self contained etc.
Its brilliant, works perfect and has just made a complete set in under 2 hours. Bearing in mind that a complete set usually goes for about a grand, I thinks thats pretty good.
Just thought I would share that, sorry. :lol:

I really have no idea. I don't think I've ever watched a football match, in a stadium or on telly. And yes, O.K. I used to play rugby, but only in inter Uni matches - we never got on the telly, and there was certainly no-one playing the national anthem or any other sort of tune, at our matches.

So, what's the answer?

Dilemma was, if you were nearly at the exit, should you stand, or should you go. I remember in the Channel Islands' cinemas, people would stay, just so they could sit through the anthem and show their independence.

Crikey.

Ok, the answer is that before an international match, they will play the 2 national anthems of the countrys being represented. Its standard practise around the world, and along with that, standard practise used to also to boo the oppositions anthem. England in particular always got rough treatment around the world from other nations, and in return English fans used to give visitors to these shores grief. Fortunately, people have seen sense and tried to be a little more respectful these days. However, dont expect for one minute when England play Wales or Scotland for God Save The Queen to be respected or applauded.

The national anthem is also played before a major cup final in this country, although I dont know if they play their own national anthem at cup finals in other countries around the world.

I would be lost without music, I could'nt do the household chores, the garden or the decorating without it. I have to take a radio over the allotment, we even have speakers in the bathroom, so I listen to music in the bath.

I had a very nostalgic day yesterday, music wise. I lost my young brother about 25 years ago and he was an avid music fan. He had a vinyl collection of about 250 LPs. My Mum gave the collection to me. They were all beatufully preserved in plastic covers, most of them with either a gig program, ticket, tshirt or scarf inside the cover. Marvellous collection of which I would never part with. I have not had a turntable for many years but Hubby bought me one a liitle while ago. So as yesterday I was in my office most of the day studying that was the time to have a blast.
I had a great day listening to AC/DC, Rush, Quo,Mettalica, Neil Young,Roxy Music.
It was great made a real change.

Having just said that we are currently de-cluttering and having the biggest clear out. Preparing stuff for ebay, freeads, specialists and car booty. We just do not need all this stuff. All our camping stuff,half the surfing stuff,skates,boards and boots, about half of a 5000 collection of DVD's, 5 stereos, 7 dvd players its all got to go.

My husband is a great collector of clutter as well - old JCB's, muck spreaders, tractors, hay elevators etc. etc. We had the scrap man clear quite a lot, but we still have masses more that I can't persuade him to part with yet.

I forgot to say - Tony, I hope you have a very big shovel (for the sand I mean)! :lol:

Apart from the metallica collection AC/DC my favourites. He must have gone to see them loads of times judging by the gig tickets. Some of the prices on the gig tickets were a whole GBP4.00.

That's a bit of a coincidence, I've just spent about an hour cleaning the glue off our 3 new velux windows, with some extra powerful glass cleaning solvent plus the special metal scraper designed for cleaning glass cooker tops.

Velux have a horrible habit of glueing the A4 sized guarantee to the underneath of the windows with 6 blobs of impossibly well stuck on glue. If you look when you're driving around you often see the glue blobs still stuck on people's veluxes.

Saw the Blow monkeys at Wembley , well nearly it was supposed to start at 16.00hrs got there at 16.15 just as I walked into the stadium I heard "Thank you very much you have been a great audience" they had started the show bloody early, I then had to sit through Feral Bloody Sharkey, then ELO who were great and then top of the bill an hour late was Rod Stewart who had put the original Faces back together including the late Ronnie Lane who Ronnie Wood carried on and then dropped on stage !!!
So I never got to see the Blow Monkeys, although Tony might say it was a blessing in disguise, but it was a good night.... :wink:

Just use PVC solvent cleaner, Hubby uses on all windows he fits, works a treat.

I was, I didn't even want to go out then we ended up out for lunch then going out for dinner too. I was peering over the edge of the slippery slope and someone shoved me. I have literally JUST managed to eat and drink a glass of milk-something is seriously up when you can't even keep water down :lol:

Try and make it to the golf course later on, it isn't loch jumping weather quite yet.

I never thought I would see the day......A Scotsman who can't hold his drink :roll:

Usually I am OK, mixing drinks is never big or clever. The only time I had 2 drinks was when it was '2 jagerbombs' or '2 goldschlagers' and it all went downhill.

Thanks for the tip re solvent cleaner. The stuff I was using was probably something like that - the carpenters gave it to me - but it was still quite a job. I didn't know your hubby fitted veluxes, if he was a bit closer he could have done mine. We've done 3 now, and we need to do another 3 plus possibly a couple of sun pipes/light tubes.

Pablo - I think you should give up the alcohol and become tea-total like me, before you wreck your liver like that guy that used to play football - I've forgotten his name but I'm sure you know who I mean.

Me too, never really had the need for alcohol and can honestly claim in all my years I have never had a hangover. Thats not to say i dont enjoy a beer, or a good whisky but can not stand wine

Yes, it was George Best, and I remember being annoyed because he'd had a liver transplant and then wasted it by continuing to drink. It must have been heartbreaking for his family and friends.

My husband and I both have/had relatives who drank far too much/alcoholics and now I don't drink any and he drinks very little (like a couple of glasses of wine at Christmas).

I'm glad to hear you don't drink much. I wouldn't have thought students could afford to drink these days, it's incredibly expensive especially if you drink out in the pub. When I was a student one of my female friends used to drink 10 pints per session - I wonder if she's had a liver transplant yet :?:

Yes amongst other things Hubby owns a small glazing business. He fits windows, doors conservatories. I need new windows, a conservatory and a porch, but he never has the time.

I used to worry that my Son drank too much, but that was several years ago, now he says he hardly goes out. Too busy doing up his flat, working and girlfriends. But when he does go out, he goes way over the top.

I know just what you mean, about husbands. Mine is out all day now driving tractors for other people, and all I wanted was for him to put a tractor and trailer in the yard so that someone could load up the logs from the huge trees we've had felled (I've damaged my arm lifting exceptionally heavy objects just lately - got to see the osteopath), but I had to nag him. If it was someone other than me asking, he'd have done it straight away.

I tell you what you could do - is phone up and book someone else to do you a porch etc. and then tell him. After he's yelled at you he'll probably do it himself. That's what I do. It helps if you put ear plugs in first :lol:

After 25 years of being married I could write a book on how to manage husbands.

I guess I've been lucky. My husband's pretty easy to manage. Clean clothes, food, as much freedom as he wants (apart from when I want a trailer for logs) and plenty of XXX, and he's happy enough.

I think I'd count as an economy wife - I never asked for, or wanted an engagement ring. Total waste of money I reckon. And we bought the cheapest wedding ring in the shop for me. No big expensive wedding either - homemade food in the farm shed and meal out on the concrete with tables and chairs borrowed from the chapel, and 2 beer barrels in another farm shed. Actually, everyone reckoned it was the best wedding they'd ever been to. People still talk about it now, 25 years later.

I am panicking because I've only got a couple of weeks left to get our second holiday cottage ready for the season and we have masses left to do, and I've damaged the muscles in my left arm (hopefully temporarily) and I can't use it now, and I have to pack up all the stuff in the kitchen etc. for the painter, with only one arm, and take stuff to the tipp etc.etc..

And I am going to be a godmother on Sunday and I've never done it before, and I will have to dress up smart and say my lines right in church, and I don't suppose I'll be able to lift the baby now with a bad arm.

Oh Dear you are in a fix. Try totaly resting it for 24hrs, do nothing try and let it heal. Its better than trying to do to much. Also try some voltarol gel, its better than ibuleve.

I made the most of my last day off before I go back to work to-morrow. Dug over nearly a quarter of my allotment and planted 120 seed potatoes. Hubby took me out for a nice lunch. Went to garden centre, spent a fortune on plants. Made and planted up an alpine garden. Did some internet shopping for my hols. Thats about it really, just wish I had'nt done so much digging, my back aches, so I am off to have a jacuzzi and hopefully a back massage. :lol:

I have bought a sling today and put my arm in it to try and stop me from using it, but I'm also lifting it with my other arm to stretch it (I had a 'frozen' shoulder before, after I broke my other shoulder). And I've got voltarol and one of those re-freezable ice bandages.

120 seed potatoes is an awful lot. You must have quite a large allotment. We used to grow our own vegetables here in our garden, but we got too lazy. I like growing flowers more. We have a huge garden, must be nearly an acre.

I hope your back recovers in the jacuzzi, and all goes well tomorrow when you're back at work. Have the spots all gone?

Still a bit spotty, but none on show. We have a 100ft plot allotment so it takes a lot of upkeep. Plus a very large garden, jam packed full of plants and shrubs and a greenhouse.

My arm is quite a bit better today, and I've got an appointment now with the osteopath for tomorrow, so hopefully there won't be any long term damage.

There are still plenty of logs left to load onto the trailer, after cutting down five 40 feet high Monterrey Cyprus trees, so if you want to come and help me Ian, with my 'non proper' job you're very welcome, as long as you are good at lifting heavy logs onto trailers :-o Plus, I could do with a hand (or arm really) to load the contents of the house into boxes ready for the painter. My husband has gone off ploughing again today, on contract work.

As a matter of fact, it's the first time I've felt pleased I'm not going ski-ing, because I don't think I'd be able to ski with my arm like this. It would have completely wrecked my holiday. I wonder what happened about Dids' daughter and her wrist, and whether they went on their ski holiday or not. I hope she was O.K. and they did go and they're having a great time.

No keep the bling, and my new jackets always get a wearing before I go, even trying the whole lot on......different hats........different gloves........... The first time before we went on our first holiday we had a trying on session.......everything thermals, boots, gloves, hats and even goggles and sat in the garden with a mulled wine, nothing like getting the mood. We are sad really but were so excited.

That was a very expensive jacket, Caron. I saw lots of Russian women wearing very similar stuff this season. all tight fitting and big furry hoods, although a lot of the stuff they were wearing was that nasty shiny material.

I didnt mean it to come across as negative. However, there were quite a lot of "well shaped" women wearing this kind of style jacket, particularly in St Anton, and they all were speaking in a very strong Eastern European language, which I assumed to be Russian. They certainly caught the eye in them!
I think the fluffy hood works. You'll just need to brush up on how to order Wodka in the right accent!!!

I'm a bit nervous about the marker pen and tipex [ :lol:] so I think I might pop into WHSmith tomorrow and see if I can find any grey or silver little round stickers, they'd do the trick :thumbup:. If not, I'm sure I can grin and bear it, I don't have to look at me!

I do strange things like this, for my friends wedding this year I put black nail polish on a bit of a belt that was silver because the clutch on my bag was gold :roll:. Mr a thinks I'm a mentalist but I honestly can't think why...

Spangly bits, can't beat em ;)

I got a bit excited in Austria last week and bought a new jacket and pants (and hat).

I love the stuff, it's a German manufacturer "Platshirsh" and it's well groovy, only problem is I think I need to take up skiing to carry it off !!!

The jacket even came with a hip flask and cigar case in special pockets!!

Very new company, so will not see many on the slopes, especially I hope in Chile (84 days to go).

Got the red Excalibur Jacket with the grey checky Excalibur pants, the quality looks excellent, but you never know until you get on the slopes.

Need to start smoking cigars....haha

ooooooh, today is shaping up quite nicely now.

My new board has just arrived :D Had to pay 48 Euro duty on it as it came from Canada, but I am more than chuft. Gonna have a nice bite to eat now, then head to the zoo with my little one!!!

X-rays showed no break but they were scared of a fracture so I was meant to go back the next day for folow up x-rays, well I didn't and I went riding. Fine in boots, awful without, off to the hospital on Tuesday for more x-rays, they suspect a hairline fracture.

You need to get yourself sorted, you are going to do yourself some damage if you arent careful.

I hadnt considered a May weekend, but might look into it now you have mentioned it. I was going to see what you were doing on Jan 9th 2010 for a week.....
