I would go with the Motorola purely because I have never heard of 'Cobra'. If the ranges are correct then the Cobra is a little less so yet another reason to go Moto :wink:

Ours our Motorolla, dont know what type though. Never had any probs.

I had no idea what to expect to pay, but looking on ebay I see a pair of 10 mile radius ones are going for around GBP20 plus delivery. I'll have some at that price. I was only looking at 2, but might buy 2 sets for when we go as a group.

I got mine in front of me now, the make is Uniden model PMR885 comes with charger and headsets, never had a moments trouble with them :wink:

Yes I won, but i made a mistake. I was slightly drunk on the night in question and they only have a range of 3.10 miles :evil:. On the bright side Im never that far from the better half only when she has a break and I may go off and do a bit extra. Still a bit pi**ed off about it. :evil:

The last time i bought something off e bay i was drunk and bought a 8 man tent. I was that drunk i didnt even realise Id bought it till it turned up at the door and to top it off Id paid for it twice (got 1 payment back though).

Last time I bought something off Ebay it was a pair of skis that I put in a silly offer for not thinking for one minute that it would be accepted. Next morning there is an email telling me they are sold and I need to pay!
Mind you, GBP75 for a GBP300 pair of skis is a good deal, and they were great to ski on too.
They were on for GBP150 or best offer, I put in GBP75 thinking they would laugh at me, and they sold them!!!!
I wasnt drunk at the time though.

3 miles should be OK shouldnt it?

Only used the tent 2 times.

1st time at Silverdale and it was like being on the set of Shameless. Gangs of kids drunk and it was heaving it down. Tent next to us the owner had a joint and tin of beer and a pit bull! ffs chaved up to the hilt. Tent other side had to many kids to count, the final straw came at 5 in the morning with a kid crying " DAD, DAD, DAD IVE WET ME BED" we packed up and went home.

2nd time was worse.

Sold it to a mate.

Mine are up to sixk, which is somewhere near your three miles, never had any problems with reception :wink:

Theyve arrived!!! Girlfriend and daughter are off to Lancaster with 1 w/t and Ive got the other. There going to stop at certain places and see if they work. Funny as hell, picking up other peoples reception and daughter is howling and embarrassed that she has to get out of the car to test them. Told her its better reception if you stand on 1 leg :mrgreen:

I think you will find that you will pick up other users even in the alps, it is normally short sharp conversations of " Where are you " " I'll meet you " when I use them.... :shock:

erm :mrgreen: in these modern days of 2009 this is what you need.

2 x beans cans, washed and dried (heinz works for best reception)
2 x lollipop sticks (make sure ice lollys have been eaten first)
2 x blobs of bluetack
some stickyback paper

take one can. apply one blob of bluetack to side about an inch from the top and press lollipop stick firmly to the side. cover in sticky back paper.

repeat above for can 2 and

hey presto 2 tin can mobile phone/walkie talkies :mrgreen:

about 8-10 kms in good weather and as i say if you use heinz reception is excellent, cheaper brands you tend to get more interference :D

I think the cans do work, but only if you have a piece of string between them, and keep it pulled tight - obviously won't be able to do that over 3 Km :lol:

I'm sure I made one of these when I was a child - probably saw it on Blue Peter.

I didn't put anything down for occupation because I don't really have one, I have lots, and I earn a bit of money from each of them, but none of them would really define me as female, and I don't suppose they'd all fit in the box anyway.

I'm 5 foot ten, and I used to play rugby for my Uni (first women's rugby team for that uni), so that doesn't help much. And I do a lot of physical men's work. I even look quite a lot like a man, because of my height, hair cut and build, and I sometimes get called 'Sir' or 'Monsieur', and I usually wear men's clothes because women's clothes don't fit me very well.

But I am definitely female.

I think a simple male or female box, as Ian suggests, in the profile, would be a good idea. I don't like not knowing whether to say 'he' or 'she' and I hate getting it wrong. I never have liked guessing games much.

But I rather think this thread is supposed to be about walkie talkies, not the problems involved in trying to decide if a j2skier is male or female.

So we tested the w/talkies and they work ok over a short distance :D. My mates off out at 06:00hrs and will test them over a few miles, but people its looking good. Out!

What a load of crap!!!!!!!!!!!!! :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

Went for a run and took a W/Talkie and after a mile couldnt hear a word from the other W/Talkie. Absolute pants!!! When i got home the other w/talkie was picking up the bloody gypos again (something about fences)

Have just e mailed the place where i bought them from saying they are pants and can i please have my money back. Watch this space. :evil:
