I'm still really tempted with Kitz

As I have said above I quite like the idea of Kitzbuhel next year, found this write up in the Sun

As you know I have a split personality one half says " why don't you pop off to Kitz for a few days " the other " stay in Italy, France Andorra, Norwich...... Not Austria.

As you can appreciate it is a very difficult decision, which we will make when we all agree :mrgreen:

Lolz. Generally I entrust my holiday choices to sofa-skiers from the interwebz not a fella getting pissed in Kitz for a week ( I assume ).

Disclaimer-Folks from interwebz may also spend week getting drunk. Guy from Sun may not.

i wouldnt mind ski-ing kitz but i prefer smaller towns to stay in, im not a party animal and get a bit nervous in crowds. but for the w family i think it would be ok.

i dont read any papers so i must be illegible

Pabs, were you aware that the burghers of Benidorm have spent mega amounts on upgrading the resort, to generally 4 star standard :D

here is the list La Molina, Pas de la casa, Soldeu, Valmeinier, Valfrejus, Morrillon, La Thuila, Livigno, Chiesa, Adelboden, Bormio, Santa Caterina, Caspoggio, Le Grand bornand, Passo Tonale, Valmorel, Macugnaga, Anzere, and the Lecht there might be a few more tucked away but I'm bored now. :shock:

Litttle W would be left at home with grand parents, she is not into partying, well not that type :cry:

There is not many kids of seven who have been skiing since the age of three, she gets spoilt rotten at Grandmas.
She loves her skiing and never complains she understands that its mummy and daddies little treat, and trust me I will not be out partying every night :shock: :shock:

i am trying to get grandma to come and stay with my little petal while i am away but it's not working, think he was a bit lonely while i was in n, but it would cost me a fortune to put dog in kennels while she here and redecorate before she arrives, she is known lovingly as the queen, told him to get his mate around to stay.

Ian, if you want to go to Kitz, then get on and book it. I havent been, but if its anyting like other places in Austria, you should enjoy it. Austria is a fantastic place to ski.
I dont tend to choose somewhere to go based on what nationalities go there, or based on a review in the Sun for that matter either, otherwise I'd spend every summer in Haven at Cleethorpes with the rest of Sheffield......Seriously, go for it Ian otherwise you will never be able to pass comment on Austria.

I can pass comment and have about Austria, I'll have to see how Mrs W feels about it, she might be the stumbling block 8)

We have been skiing Kitz for the last 5 years and love it. My kids all learned to ski there and the oldest is now nearly 8. It is a great place for us as we normally put the kids into ski school for a few days and then they ski the rest of the week with us. This year we had two weeks and our eldest (12) skiied with us the whole time and took great delight in showing up dad I(who is a good skiier) on the black runs. Lots of nice cruisy reds and blues too which is what I normally stick to. My 7 year old does the reds with no problem at all with me as they are generally very wide runs

If you stay in a half board hotel or self cater you do not need to get involved with the nightlife. Kitz is a bit upmarket so not much of the rowdy crowd anyway. We take the kids into town before dinner for a gluwein and Jaegermeister at Chizzo's (outside bar in the main pedestrian area) they get a lemonade of course - and that is about as ;far as our nightlife goes. We are normally too tired at the end of the day for anything else anyway.

I went to Kitzbuhel in Feb with my school-the kids loved it-the learner area is completely seperate from the rest of the ski area so it is much more quiet which was great for them to learn on. Some tougher piste also, including of course the hannenkam!
We stayed in a place called the Hotel Kaiser which of course is more specifically for school groups-if youre not looking for 5 star accom then it was amazing, really friendly and has had a total makeover since any photos on any websites-looks like a prison from them!!

I love watching the downhill from Kitz every year and this has often made me think about going there. However, from reading various reviews of the resort, I would have some concerns about the extent of the skiing relative to the size of the village and also the reliability of the snow. From what I gather, you can end up with very busy slopes and pretty poor snow conditions :x. But I guess thats the chance you take with every trip.

Another option you might consider is staying somewhere lift Westendorf or Soll. The skiwelt area is huge with lots of variety and is now connected to Kitz so it would be possible to ski over there on one or two days (not sure how long it takes to get across though).

Exactly why I have never considered it as a viable option. I hate going anywhere that gets over busy, and having been to St Anton and Verbier neither of them were problematic at the time I went, although the last run off of the day in both resorts was, shall we say "hairy"?

Kitz is quite low down, although the N gang will tell you altitude doesnt matter. Try explaining that to the bases of my Blizzards after I shredded them going over a series of stones on a black run there just 2 days after Xmas :shock:

Have you been to Solden or Ischgl yet, as knowing what you like from your ski areas, I think these might have some appeal? Or even, dare I suggest it, Mayrhofen?
