Holiday photos

I invariably end up with lots of shots of mountains, people and snow after a ski holiday. I have tried to be a little more "arty" on the odd occasion and wondered if anyone else had some more unusualy shots to share on here.

Heres a couple of my attempts:

Any expert tips welcomed.

They're definitely different!

Is it just me though, or does Mrs_H (I presume...?) look like she has been squashed from above in the first shot (or was that the general intention?) Nice jacket though - green looks very smart and is that bit different.

I'll leave any more critiquing to those who actually know something about photography :D

very inventive Tony, is that the chair lift looking rather squiggly above her head? sorry cant really critique it as I am no expert but I too love taking photos and have a good camera, although tended to use my camera phone on holiday recently otherwise I start looking like the papparzi come to town.

there is a brill photo forum I like to go to called dpreview.com

YOu can get some really good ideas there

i am feeling very inadequate, i wasnt nearly as adventurous with my photos. will try harder next time.

I like the top one - black and white seems to work really well for snowy shots. :D

Not tried it myself, but some of the shots in my wedding album are taken on an angle and these really do work well. Meant to give it a go when I was away but didn't get round to it. Next time perhaps?

some really amazing photos :thumbup:. I have no artistic skill whatsoever, I can't even put make up on properly!

My oh is also extremely keen on black and white, so much so that he wrote a song about it :roll:

Hi Tony_H I'm no expert, but I do take loads of photos. That's the beauty of digital cameras - take loads of photos & only keep the best shots! It also gives you the opportunity to attempt 'arty shots' without wasting film.

My tips would be:-

When taking photos with people on them - look all around the subject & either move yourself, or get them to move to ensure they don't have posts, trees etc.in the background sticking out of them.

Zoom in close & be prepared to get down low to frame an object against a sky, the snow or an uncluttered background.

Take shots from unusual angles.

Have your camera handy all the time or you will miss lots of opportunities.

Get up early or stay out late to make the most of the differing light conditions.

Look at various photo sites & galleries to get ideas.

My photos are my treasured memories & I love looking back at them. If I've finally mastered the art of posting photos, a few slightly arty ones should follow:- :?

Yipeee....they're there when I do a preview. No doubt I'll press submit & they'll be gone!

this was my view one evening from bedroom window at dusk, i loved the way the clouds were rolling in, didnt capture it as well as i thought but worth a try

Loving all the photos. Makes me want to go ski again so much. My daughter took all the photos on holiday, but she's going to transfer them onto my computer and when she does, might even manage to post some )
